av-comparatices: why are results so inconsistent?

With great interest, I was studying the last av tests at av-comparative.org, hoping to find the best product for my needs. What makes me wondering is the inconsistency of test results.

KAV from advanced+ to standard? NOD32 from advanced to advanced+? KAV, detecting almost 100% in 2/07, misses most threats 3 months later (detection rate 9%)?

Does anyone know the reason for these up and downs?

    Thanks
    Thomas

the ones where kav scores high are on demand comparatives, basically all scanners are updated then tested.
the next ones, where kav scores low are proactive tests. these are caried aout against new malware with 3 month old signatures. kav 6 score lower, but kav 7 which has some new technology scored better then v6

you should read the testing methodology on av-comparatives for more details.

    thfrank,

you are comparing on-demand testing vs proactive testing,

2 completly different tests, 2 completly different results.

A special proactive test was done with Kaspersky AV v7. The results of that can be found underneath the main set of on-demand & proactive/retrospective tests on the Comparatives page.
