I strongly agree and would have to add that popups and Ads have NOTHING to do with a firewall and prefer to just use my browser (Opera) or another program to block them.

As for feature requests i think everything has been covered in previous posts and should have the ideas possibly be made into a poll? I feel that ESET is taking the security suite in the right direction and would definately have my continue to use/reccomend their products if it continues listening to customers and reviewers.:thumb:

Anti-Virus: Is in my opinion has been good since v2.7 and needs very little improvement in detection, while the firewall is where the focus needs to be set.
GENERAL: There are small interface problems. ie: i cannot use the scroll wheel to move down (if there is alot of information on the screen)
FIREWALL: The automatic mode needs to have more control over it as it stands as of now (it is too automatic)
FIREWALL: Zone Alarm 7 and Outpost have the features and interface i like to see in a good/strong firewall.

spam filter for thunderbird / outlook express, or just a client independent spam filter, where the mails are first routed thro the spam filter, & then passed to the email client. possibility to check which mails are blocked in a tabular display, & allow or disallowthe mails.

I guess I might be a bit off for the topic of this thread, but my following post feels kinda valid to this thread:

    bugs, small but annoying.

    1. "Use Animated Controls" in the Setup > Advanced Setup > User Interface menu is ignored and/or not saved.
I have it disabled (per default) still it scrolls. changing speed works, saving that it should use scroll doesn't work.
Seems default is 1 and wont be shut off even though it says so.

    2. I must have clicked on the right side of the ESS window to allow that side to be scrolled by my mouse-scroll.
Highly annoying sometimes, as I believe default action would be to scroll a scrollist when it is the only one around.

    3. Quarantine time in Tools > Quarantine does not show leading zero in date, month, hour, minute nor second, I'd say thats fairly standard that it should do? (and if not, give me an option please.)

    4. request: way to turn on off firewall/antivirus and change some aspects of it through rightclick popup on ess tray icon

    5. request: fix the fact that sometimes when not selecting something in the aformentioned popup wont close it when clicking on desktop or any other window.

That's all I have for ESS b1a. I couldn't way in on ESS b1 before cause it refused to install for me.

    Regards

    Teazle

The tray icon to have a name... (not a mouseover caption! a name)

(otherwise Windows XP's and Vista's tray icon managers aren't able to remember that I set the icon to "Always show", and after a while it gets hidden automatically... I know this "feature" has the weight of a tiny bit of nothing, but should take that much time to implement, as well. :) )

Actually, TB doesn't need it, but since OE doesn't have any kind of spam filtering, an ESS spam filter for OE would be very nice! :thumb:

Don't really know if this is a bug or feature request. I´m running ESS in interactive mode. I have chosen to password protect my settings.
Every time the firewall prompts me for a decision and I want to add a rule, it also prompts me for the settings password. Which is ok.... Once per session or so... Not every frickin' time!

Sounds normal to me. Most password protected apps work this way.

Anytime you password protect your firewall, it is going to ask you if what it is about to do is okay.

just think though if you had put in the passowrd once for a good reason then someone else who knew nothing of what they were doing went on your pc then you'd want it to ask every time ;) just the way I see it...

when you go to advanced mode and change settings you should be able to expand the panel.
atm in beta 1a you have to scroll left and right to see the whole text.
i would like to see that fixed.

I'd love to see a few things change as well.
Let me state first that I thusfar like what I see for a statefull packetfilter under windows - It's still not OpenBSD's PF for Windows, but who knows.. maybe one day - I hope so.

Regarding the speed and thusfar superb quality for a beta product - I'm impressed but I always have been regarding the anti4us by Eset.
No need for me to test the anti4us quality extensively so I mainly focussed on the packetfilter. The antispam-module I didnt even activate because I reckon that's just a little extra by Eset - there's some great filters out there you can use to keep those to a minimum anyway.

    Now my wishlist =
most of the wishes already have been said in this thread so I'll keep it short :)

    1) The ability to set your own order in rules. Order can make a difference and altho I like most of the prefab-rules, I would even like it more If I put some of my own rules in between some of the fixed rules since some home-network configs just won't work with windows filesharing - like my weird samba/kerberos/windows-mixed homenetwork for example, but I won't bore you with the details :)
    2) The ability to set the logging PER fixed rule like it is with the ones you create yourself. There's no need for a huge amount of SSDP blocked lines in my log, but I *DO* want to see other blocked stuff in the log. So I have no choice than to live with "spam" in my logs since I dont allow UPNP on my network (inwards/outwards/internal.. UPNP is yucky).
    3) The ability to "scrub" packets before they make it to the first rule. Malformed packets shouldnt be even allowed to make it this far. Now they do.
    4) Expert-feature for the paranoid or just plain interested people to be able to log as deep as raw packets. I'm sure only very few people would actually like that, but the bigger the range in verbosity in logging, the better :)

For now thats it. And like I said.. I see great potential and I'm sure the endresult will be as kickass as the antivirus :)
More companies should design their securityproducts like Eset already is doing. Relative small mem-footprint, blazing fast, superb quality.

The moment it goes commercial you can sign me up as customer for my 2 windows-based machines for sure :)

Cookie manager/blocker should be part of a spyware module by default.

Popup and ad blockers are a nice to have if they work. Other suites have it... if Eset wants to go mainstream, really need to consider it.

I think the AntiSpam module should support Thunderbird too because it's an AntiSpam module and so it should support the most known mail applications.

For my part I don't like the idea to add Popup and ad blockers because there are already some good applications for that.

We aren't the target market for the suite. We aren't the big revenue play for Eset. Selling to more enthusiasts will not produce a significant lift in their revenues or market share. The goal of this product is to acquire new business... NOD32 2.7 wasn't the platform for that goal.

Your average user is the target for the suite and they will not want to install manage and interact with multiple security applications. Ad blockers and cookie managers are expected in this type of application because the other suites offer similar finctionality. If Eset doesn't deliver... good luck trying to get a OEM customer or have a significant increase in direct to consumer sales.

Corporate market is a lot tougher to get into than the OEM market, especially when you consider the long track record of Symantec/Norton and Trend. May be a market to go after with the suites functionality as is.

We are security enthusiasts that don't mind running multiple, best of breed apps. The new version of the AV is the app we should be most concerned with.

a better way of handling the firewall's trusted zone.
as an expert, it didn't take me long to understand how to config ESS to allow printer and file sharing on my network,
but regular users will find it hard.

i believe that a wizard should be implented, just like Kaspersky's one.

Hi! It would be great if ESS had a Registry Scanner and protect the operatin g memory in real-time (to be able to scan the memory in real-time). Also it would be great to have the Registry included like a option in custom scan .

No. Eset produces tight, serious security tools. It should stay that way. There plenty of decent cookie / privacy management tools out there if you want them. No real Eset fan would want their products becoming bloatware as some close competitors have. I want the Eset developers to concentrate on what they're best at, and get better. That's why NOD32 is the BEST, top rated AV product.

P.S "...if Eset want to go mainstream..." !!! They are mainstream and have been for years...look at the reviews, awards and opinions in the industry...
