Bluenile, since you're using Kerio as well, does it let you connect to the internet after the latest upgrade? Kerio was working perfectly for me untill I installed the latest version. My firefox 2.0 has full permission but for some reason Kerio is blocking it and everything else, all of my setting are the same as the working older verison. Am I over looking something or what. I really hope you can help me, thanks!! I should have never upgraded it.

I see now that the older version of Kerio which is 4.2.2 fully works unlike the latest version which completely blocks any access to the internet despite having all kinds of permission:rolleyes: has anybody else experienced this?

Kerio is driving me insane, now that I have version 4.2.2 installed, it lets every application access the internet despite my input. Well! unless something changes, I have to say goodbye to Kerio and start hunting for a new firewall, too bad!

I haven't used Kerio in awhile, but under the "network security" tab are the options for "any other apps" set to ask?

You may want to ask around at CastleCops... They have an Official Sunbelt Kerio forum there.

thanks for that suggestion but I finally got the situation under control:D The problem was that I had Kerio installed and uninstalled too many times, too much junk in the registry I guess, so I restored my computer to a previous backup and now Kerio works like a charm.

again thanks for taking the time.

thank God for backups!! ;) :D I love Acronis True Image 9

You need to edit the file named "hosts"

Weird, i searched for hosts and it only came up in the i386 directory which is a clean windows installation. Do i not have a hosts file? Should i move a copy of the hosts file into the etc folder?

EDIT: Doesn't matter, it was the hosts.msn, just wondering why msn was at the end.

Since the hosts file is a text file, reading, editing, or creating it should be done in Notepad or other text editor. However, it has no extension so double-clicking will not open it automatically but will bring up the “Open with” menu instead. You can then select Notepad to open it. If your system has no hosts file and you use Notepad to create one, be sure to save the file with no extension. Notepad will automatically tack on a .txt extension otherwise. When saving, save as “hosts”, including the quotation marks. Now you can add the entry to bypass the AOL AVS update server.

    127.0.0.1 download.newaol.com

    * hosts.msn comes from MSN messenger when you use the troubleshooter and it is safe to delete.

    * hosts.sam is a sample hosts file

Thanks, i copied the hosts file from the i386 directory to the etc file and added that address. Seems to be working because it fails to connect to download.newaol.com and goes to kaspersky.

I'd even go with slower AOL update servers if they'd work properly. But i was getting freakin "incorrect signatures" error every freakin time i tried updating (or when AVS tried updating). So this was the only fix i could use. And it's working properly now. Shame on you AOL...

Decided to install AVS 2.5 on the wife's laptop, otherwise known as "the test machine". :D While there isn't supposed to be Web AV included with AVS, I see by using TCPView as many sites connected out with avp.exe as Firefox. Sure as hell looks like Web AV to me. If not, what am I seeing?

Well, I can confirm that the fragmentation issues with KAV 6.02.621 are inherited by AVS 2.5. I ran PerfectDisk 8.64 on the wife's 'C' drive and it did the job that it's famous for. Negligible file/directory fragmentation and none at all in the MFT and other system files. After running a full (My Computer) scan with AVS, the fragmentation levels in all areas were ridiculously high! So, off with AVS, on with Avira Classic and Prevx2. They should keep her out of trouble.

Yes, they should, you were too fast though, the extra fragmentation is only apparant after the first full scans, subsequent scan are not the same.

OK, I may have been hasty. PerfectDisk did deal with the fragmentation thoroughly. I may put it back on wifey's machine. I think the red umbrella irritates her!

Being that you're the fella in the know vis-a-vis Kaspersky related things, does AVS 2.5 have HTML/web scanning? In an earlier post (#65) of mine you'll see why I ask.

No, it doesn't, it lacks PDM, web-av and exclusions, but depending on the use it doesn't need to be any problem.................i have two family members on AVS btw.

Have you any idea why AOL hasn't officially released this latest version yet?

Maybe it's not bloated enough for them. :D
