Backup Windows 2003 Active Directory

Hello,
Im I.T. responsible at the hotel with 5 stars. i have downloaded Acronis True Image v9.0 and i want to backup our server which have installed Windows 2003. But my friend told me there is some options to backup active directory. if i dont choose this option acronis can't backup the active directories. So i want to ask you is it true? how can i backup all include active directories? thank you all, thanks for help.

 

Did you buy the Server version of TI?

 

Well, if David has the v9.0 home version, it won't even install on WinServer 2003! So David, assuming that you actually have ATI v9.1 (for Servers), it will definitely allow you to create and restore images of your entire WinServer2K3 OS (including the active directory) as well as everything else on the system hard drive (and for that matter, every other hard drive on the server).

Btw David, the only option for ATI v9.1 Server version (or the Workstation version) is Universal Restore, which allows you to restore an image from one computer onto another computer (however, that option has been problematic).

i haven't ATI v9.1 for servers or workstation version. is only this versions work for win2003? If i download Acronis True Image 10 Home version is it work for me can it backup all include active directories?
And is there time limit for restore? after 15 day restore will work or not?
And final question https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=85956 there is few commands to backup an Active Directory. is it necessary to type this commands? thanks again for help.

 

David, ATI v9.0 and v10 are HOME versions and they will not install on a Windows 2003 Server OS (even a Corporate Workstation version will not install on this OS)! You must use a Server Edition of ATI for the Win2K3Server OS - either ATI 9.1 Enterprise Server or ATI 9.1 Server for Windows.

To address the 2nd part of your post, I believe the main limitation of the trial versions is that they won't create an Emergency Boot CD, which you definitely need for image-recovery if and when you experience a disaster-like situation!

Please note that as pvsurfer said, server versions of Windows operating systems (Windows 2003 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced server, Windows 2000 Server and Windows NT 4.0 Server etc) are supported by server versions of Acronis True Image: Acronis True Image 9.1 Server for Windows and Acronis True Image 9.1 Enterprise Server.

As for the limitations of the trial versions of Acronis True Image, note that trial version Acronis True Image is fully operational in Windows, but works only for 15 days. Standalone version of Acronis True Image can only restore an image. The trial version of Acronis True Image 9.1 Enterprise Server (as well as Acronis True Image 9.1 Workstation) in addition allows you to manage 5 remote computers. The image archives created with the trial version can be restored with the full version later on.

Note that you can stop ntfrs and netlogon services either manually or using pre/post commands of Acronis True Image. Check chapter "Pre/post commands" in the User's Guide for the respective version of Acronis True Image.
