Hello friends from the forum,I´m trying sophos and your opinions count a lot to me,so what are your opinons about it? Is it good or there are better outside? Thanks for your help
many people have a different top 5, as you will see. personall i like, DrWeb Norton 2007 Panda 2007 F-secure AVG
Sophos is primarily marketed to the business sector. Although av-comparatives' review gave it a less than stellar rating, Sophos is certified by ICSA Labs, and rec'd Checkmark levels 1&2 at West Coest Labs indicating that it does offer basic detection. If you're looking for light, consider: F-Prot Dr Web NOD32 VBA32
Sophos is mainly a Corporate rather than a Home AV. Support is superb but detection rates could be better. Take a look over at av-comparatives for recent tests and a recent av-test.org here . AV's that are generally considered lightweight include; AntiVir, F-Prot, Dr Web, NOD, Panda 2007, VBA32, KAV. BUT you would have to try these on your computer as they may be incompatible with your software/hardware mix.
increasing?......... i have a feeling it will be decreasing though... hmm. they made a mistake with drweb too , it should have been 99%
it should increase. source: http://www.edugeek.net/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=8918&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15
I use BD 10 it is not light in some peoples definition of light. The last time (march) I did the statistical ranking: it produced: 1 AntiVir PE Premium 550.096 + 5.615 = 555.711 2 AntiVirusKit (AVK) 550.660 + 4.490 = 555.150 3 NOD32 Anti-Virus 546.673 + 5.573 = 552.246 4 TrustPort AV WS 546.633 + 4.846 = 551.519 AntiVirusKit = KAV Personal Pro + BitDefender Prof.+ TrustPort = Norman Virus Control + BitDefender Prof.+ So you can go free with #1. Best is to pick 1 and trial it. As soon as AV comes out with June 1 data I will update the list.
More reason for me to distrust Av-test. Sophos is way below Dr.Web and F-prot and if it increases it will score around Dr.Web and F-Prot or mayeb higher. Which is bs.
What was the problem with the av-test results? (sorry, I'm lazy to register on edugeek just to read the forum post )
Its not going to increase a lot. I'm going to send an email to Marx about it right now, I think he can obviously provide a better answer than me.
I will repeat that AV-test's results are reliable enough. AVs will score what they will score, and just because some AV scores better than expected doesn't make the test BS.
Agreed completely Firecat! That's what test are for to test all AV in the test, under identical conditions as possible and publish results as they are! Not as some wished for in advance. Way to much emotion for some users, who select a product at a point in time when it was in the top group and then a few tests later get concerned if their pick doesn't hold it's ground against competition. IMHO if BD for example falls off from it's previous rating I'm not going to panic since it may be back next test. Unless it plummets precipitously to the bottom and stays there, well that would cause me to change !
