I finally had a chance to check out Proximodo. It looks and works great! How many of you use Proximodo? Do you like it? Also, which stage of development is it in? Is it still in beta?
As you can read on the project page it is still in alpha. It sure looks nice but do we really need this now that Firefox is around? http://sourceforge.net/projects/proximodo/
Ok, thanks...I must have missed that on the project page. Firefox may "block" a lot of things, but it falls short in a lot of areas. A lot of Firefox extensions claim to "filter" on page elements, but in reality these extensions only hide elements from the user. With Proximodo (and similar tools), you can filter ANY element of your choice before it's even rendered by your browser.
I let my firewall deal with the ad servers They're blacklisted, Firefox does the rest. Would be interesting to hear more about alternative apporaches though...
Bluetack lists? Apporaches: -Content filtering in UTM routers: Privoxy, Dansguardian, etc. -IP blacklist: firewall or Peer Guardian/ProtoWall/MoBlock. -Domain blacklist: hosts files. -Local proxies: Proxomitron, Privoxy, AdMuncher, etc. -Browser add-ons: Adblock/Adblock Plus, SUPER Ad Blocker, etc.
While I support the blacklist approach and even use it myself, I feel that it can get a little overwhelming at times, especially with new ad servers popping up everyday. Content filtering adds an extra layer of security to my "paranoid" security setup.
Maybe I just dont know how to configure Proximodo, but when installed it ads a couple of seconds on page loading. Making surfing a very slow experience.
That's true. Sukarof, under "Config" try enabling only the filters that you need and see if that helps... Also, turning off the outgoing/incoming header filters should help as well.
Hi, I like using Proximodo but I can't help to notice that the last update on Sourceforge was 10-10-2005. Is it still being updated and worked on? -F

I've tried Proximodo and it did seem to slow page loading down. I prefer The Proxomitron with Sidki's filters. I don't know how he does it but I experience no slow downs using his filter set.
I was reading this thread and wondering why anyone would be interested in Proxmodo when there is the incomparable Proxomitron with Sidki's filters. That is what you should be using.
KyeU's forum has moved to http://prxbx.com/forums/ AFAIK proximodo stopped development in the fall of 2005.
