what will give a secure but light system?

Hi I'm running XP Pro SP2. I have NOD32 and Comodo Firewall installed

I want to know what is the best way of using the following apps to give me a secure but lightweight system. I dont mind dropping somthing or adding extra apps to the list.

Wiindows Defender
SuperAntispyware [free]
Spyware Terminator
AVG AS [Full]
Sandboxie

Will Spyware Terminator do the same job as Process Guard??

But any suggestions? I've used PG but find it slows the laptop down espicially on start-up even though i've got a 1GB of ram.

 

If you have purchased AVG AS (full) there is little point in running ST with it, in fact it will be counterproductive to do so. Best to have only 1 resident antispyware application running. I'd either make ST demand only, which isn't the best because its strength lies largely in its realtime and HIPS protection, or make AVG resident only (which is what I do) as it is also an excellent demand scanner.Superantispyware is another excellent demand (or paid resident) scanner, if you're using it on demand only, configure it not to start with windows, update it regularly manually.
Agree with dropping WD, you have more than enough without adding mediocre to the list.
Do a bit of immunizing with SpywareBlaster (uses no resource apart from now and then when you run updates and enable protection, then you close it and it just blocks known bad ActivEx without using RAM), and consider maybe adding a hosts file, I'm using MVPS hosts, managed with Hostsman.
I like Comodo firewall, but recently it has started randomly using a fair bit of CPU now and then, don't know why yet, but its not a rare problem.
I've never used NOD32 but read it's very good, and will prevent quite a lot of spyware, too. If you're not a risky user you could probably get away with removing the resident antispy, and just run a demand scan periodically with AVG or SAS.

 

I find PG (free) very lightweight.
Perhaps, PG is conflicting with another software (?)
The HIPS portion of Spyware Terminator is a sort of behavior analyzer if I'm not mistaken. Process Guard is a classical HIPS, so it'll intercept all executables.

Sorry for not replying back sooner, I had some firewall issues to learn and sort out.

I've dropped WD as recommended. So what do you guys think of the setup so far? My laptop is running pretty good too.

I'm thinking of gettting a HIPS and/or a sandbox type program and I dont mind paying if its good and light.

So what would be a good HIPS for me? I need somthing that wont continually give me pop ups that I dont understand because I usually always end up saying yes to them.

Is sandboxIE any good or would you recommend me an alternative.

What about DefenceWall which combines HIPS and Sandbox??

I would drop Spyware Terminator if it is only going to be used as an on demand scanner. Unless it has improved greatly over the last month or two it will have a fair amount of false positives. The realtime shield is its only saving grace. That's unless its HIPS feature has improved greatly.

As for a behavior monitor that does not give a lot of pop-ups maybe try Cyberhawk or Prevx?
