    Hi everyone,

I'm still having problems with updating the virus signature database. I have done the following:

    1. Switched off my adsl firewall
    2. switched off xp sp2 firewall
    3. switched off Netlimiter (which has a supposed firewall)
    4. Set update server to "Choose Automatically"
    5. Default username/password = essbeta
    5. Set ESS to "no proxy server"
    6. Set ESS to "Advanced Mode"
    7. Click "Update virus signature database now" like there's no tomorrow...

I am using XP SP2 and my internet connection is a standard ADSL connection (NOT wireless).

When I use Nod32 2.7 it works perfect. It updates without any problems. I've been using Nod32 for years. I can't understand why ESS has such an issue. I've tried ESS beta1 and the same problem. Virus signature remains at 2236.

After so many tries of updating ESS, the protection status goes orange "Recent update attempts failed". Sometimes I get an update.ver file of approximately 11kb showing as being downloaded within the update progress bar, but nothing comes of it.

I tried installing ESS on another freshly installed PC running XP SP2. It seemed to install fine. However each time i reboot and try to log in, the ESS logo shows and remains on screen for over 5 minutes and then the screen turns grey... strange...

One final question: Is it possible to manually download the virus db updates and apply them manually to ESS?

    Thanks for any help.

    cheers, voirin

Same here, unable to update virus signatures using ESS beta 1a running under Vista Ultimate.

The latest signatures is 2236 (20070503) = from the installation.

Well, I'm seeing no problems updating on my two machines running the beta (Media Center XP/SP2, XP Pro/SP2)..., aside from ESS, is anything else running that could block communications or program functionality?

I am also not able to update beta 1A. My current virus signature data base file is Update 2134 (20070322).

I fixed the update problem on mine. I restarted computer and reset firewall rules to automatic, and restarted computer again and was able to update beta1a.

On that second PC that I mentioned in my initial post (the one that had the grey screen)... well it eventually settled down and I could log in normally, however it doesn't update as well!

I previously ran Nod32 2.7 on this PC as well with no problems!

So both my computers are static at virus signature 2236 under ESS.

I tried that but it still doesn't work.

I also tested connecting to the internet using a 56k dial up modem. Although Nod32 updates, ESS still refuses to update.

It wouldn't update with my user name and password, I changed to the essbeta user name and essbeta password and now it works.

It has worked for me even with my own username/password. Could you try hitting "Update now" several times to see if an update is eventually downloaded?

Mine won't update either... Still shows 2236 and website says 2265 already. I noticed there is no entry on the server address. I chose Choose automatically. Any solution for this?

After pushing the update button several times, it finally connects to the server.
BUT it downgrade my virus definition to 2136 and date March 22, 2007...
    Anyone got the same problem?

After several days of having ESS beta 1a installed on my several pc's, and with its inability to update its virus db when connected either via adsl or dialup, I've uninstalled it and resorted to Nod32 2.7.

I hope this update problem gets fixed in the next release, its very flaky.

After two days, it works perfectly, I think it just needs a burn-in time to settle down... So far so good...
