well if it works for you then keep using it.
it can be a nightmare to uninstall as i have found out recently.
acronis always has 4 processes running all the time.
if you disble them you will have to start them again before you can do a image.
    but the alternitives are,
    paragon
    shadow protect desktop
    both very good apps.
do a trial of them and see if you want to switch.

R-drive Image is also worth mentioning. Been using it from time to time. Very fast to start from rescue cd but perphaps not as complete as Acronis.

Thanks for your replys. Will they all work well with FDISR?

To Lodore how difficult it is to uninstall Acronis?

    Hi Ciderman

I would be remiss if I didn't mention ShadowProtect. Totally reliable and fast.

Thats pain in the a..! Sorry to hear that. I have to think about this. I have been wanting to do a fresh install on a empty snapshot with FDISR, so this would be a good time to do that....if i change form Acronis!

I'm also running Acronis True Image with FDISR and it never failed since March 2006.
Nevertheless I will replace it with ShadowProtect for a number of reasons.
Image Backup and Immediate System Recovery are the only softwares I take very seriously. :)

Why are you changing to Shadowprotect?

I don't like to talk about this, because it causes too many reactions and too many searches to support my reasons.
I read stuff, I remember stuff, I think about it and that makes me decide to keep a very important software or not. I don't do this with each software.

I will give you one unimportant reason. :D I have two choices :
    1. invest $30 to get an upgrade of Acronis True Image Home v10.0
    2. invest $70 to get ShadowProtect. So ShadowProtect costs me only $40.

plus ATI home is bloated with the new usless options.
shadow protect desktop will save you time since its faster at backing up and more reliable.

    Hello,
Have been using both ATI 9 and 10. No problems whatsoever.
Jolly good programs. ATI 10 is about 3-4 times faster in my experience.
If everything works, no need to replace anything.

Thats ok, i respect you decision. That is good enough reason for me. I will stick to Acronis for now and when version 10 becomes old i change to something else or Acronis fails.

ShadowProtect is a very good product from what I was able to determine based upon a short trial. It definitely does not have ATI 10's bloat and I like the idea of having a WindowsPE disk for recovery. It *is* somewhat pricey, though........pretty much double the price of ATI Home.

I didn't notice any substantial increase in speed over ATI 10; backups using both programs on a couple of older P4 machines finished within just a few seconds of each other. Not sure about restore times, however.

I have Acronis v9 and did standard disk images and restores and it never failed. But there were little flukey things that didn't work right not that they seemed to affect the outcome. Just made me nervous.

For me it's a confidence issue. I don't have the same confidence in ATI, that would allow me to image my primary business machine, and then essentially trash the disk, and mess with it finally doing a restore. I've done this repeatedly with Shadow Protect and it is flawless. This is from one who at one time was to scared to even try a restore.

    its worse than you think.
i read the manual uninstall instuctions given to me by acronis support including running the command line tool to stop and uninstall the service.
then i rebooted and had to use last known good.

For me Acronis has been so reliable that I stopped verifying with version 6.
I have had no problems using Acronis and FD-ISR together. I did try Paragon briefly but on my test machine it was so much slower I gave up very quickly.
Different hardwares and different softwares will influence which of the major products is best for you. If you have had no real issues with Acronis then perhaps it would be bets to resist the urge to change just for changes sake.

A very useful feature of ATI is that it can mount any image it created, so that individual files/folders can be restored ....I'd like to know if Paragon HDM can do that as well?

I know, but I wanted to stay neutral, I didn't want to tell the full story because then I have to defend myself with proof and that requires too many searches. I'm too lazy for that. The price issue had no influence on my decision.
