Zone Alarm Firewall vs. McAfee Firewall

I have been using the free version of the Zone Alarm firewall for some time, and like it. However, I can now get the paid version of the McAfee Firewall for free through my Verizon with MSN Premium account. Which would be better, the free version of zone alarm firewall, or the paid version of mcafee firewall which I can get for free?

 

I had McAfee firefall free with AOL and I found it slow.
Also, when it updated itself it blocked an application I had made a rule for (allowing inbound and outbound) and I couldn't get it to work even after making a new rule.

Uninstalled and use Filsclab now.

According to efficiency and security, ZoneAlarm is better than McAfee.

 

Thanks for the info. Seems they are both real good, and there are arguments for both of them. The one thing I found out which may make me change from Zone Alarm to McAfee is the fact that the McAfee Firewall is one of the 3 software Firewalls certified by the ICSA according to a post in one of the threads listed by CrazyM. All else being equal, that fact seems to put the McAfee one over the top.

I must say that you think very well . It is refreshing to see someone using the professional info to make an informed decision . I know this is not a thread to knock anyone or give praise but , I felt you deserved it . I have used ZAP but , not McAfee . You deciding what puts one over the other by a professional rating is excellent . Hope it works for you and again , great job handling it the way you did . I would be curious as to how good it is after you use it awhile . I am not planning on switching from mine but , I never tested McAfee . Hope you will report on it later .
Oh , are you sure it is the paid version ? It might be a stripped down version . I do not know , that is why I ask . Thanks and good luck .

 

CA's eTrust EZ Firewall uses the firewall engine from ZA, so technically, ZA is also ICSA certified. Its whether the companies choose to submit it to ICSA to get certified. CA decided to jump ahead instead of Zone Labs and send it for the test to try to increase their market share. I am sure if other firewall products like Outpost submits to ICSA, they would pass too.

the only think that i hate about MPFirewall is that have to use the Security Center that is a reason why i will never use it, but is a nice fwall
