    WinPatrol 2012 version 24.0 Released
    Date: December 29th 2011

    What's New?
    Performance - You’ll Love it
    • First and foremost I’ve been working on making WinPatrol robust and hidden away so under normal circumstances you’ll never know its running.

Cookies – Filter out Bad Cookies Automatically
    • Earlier this year Microsoft updated how they name cookie files. They now use random file names but they’re still just unencrypted text files.
Now WinPatrol 2012 will provide a fix and provides even better information about your cookies.

Localization Fix – 64 bit versions
    • I’m not a big fan of Windows 64 bit OS and our language service packs broke using Windows 64 bit. I’ve fixed this bug and look forward to showing our international friends how much we respect them by releasing new versions of our local versions. Our language packs are created by volunteers and I couldn’t think them enough.

WinPatrol Enterprise – Now Available for Small Business
    • Most users don’t realize there is a version of WinPatrol designed for large companies with over 100 employees. One of the main features of Enterprise is centralized administration. When a change is detected instead of the user being notified, an Email is generated and sent to a main administrator.

    • WinPatrol 2012 Small Business is a special partnership now available for 10 systems and one administrator for $179 USD. You can order via our online store and your small business key will be sent within 2-3 business days.

What's the version for this release?

From the website, the latest seems to be 24.0.2012.0:24.0.2012.0 but my updated copy is 24.0.2012.1:24.0.2012.1 . o_O

    Thanks.

Contrary to what Bill said to me earlier, he must have changed the version when he corrected the autorun in the installer. When WinPatrol 2012 was released, he hadn't re-checked that option so WinPatrol didn't automatically launch at restart and it was necessary to make that change manually.

Thanks Corrine! ;) Mention to Bill that this still needs to be fixed from previous 2011 versions! Capture29-12-2011-10.53.29 PM.jpg

I was hoping that this update may have fixed the problem of not detecting or warning about all scheduled tasks in windows 7 64 bit ,which makes me a little uneasy.I really hope it can be fixed at some point.

I'm seeing a problem where I can't disable the "automatically run Winpatrol..." option (Windows 7 x64). I can uncheck the box but then it re-enables. Anyone else seeing this?

Me too. You would think they would have run at startup ticked by default. Thanks for posting that. :)

Does either (or both) the free WinPatrol or WinPatrol Plus block rootkits effectively? :doubt:

    Thanks in advance,
    Cruise

I don't use that option so please explain what you mean. Is it that the option to "Confirm Exit when closing WinPatrol" should be pre-checked or that there is no longer a confirmation when closing WinPatrol?

I hadn't noticed that was missing on Windows 7, 64-bit. After checking, I see it is also missing on Windows Vista. I'll pass that along to Bill.

WinPatrol is a system monitor, not an anti-virus, anti-malware or anti-rootkit software. It will notify you of various system changes. You can see the list of WinPatrol Features here.

Still no option when Right Mouse Button the system tray icon to go into 'Game Mode'. For gamers like me, it is a pain when playing a game and then the realtime app pops up and drops your game back to Windows. Most security apps these days have a game mode. All it does is repress the popups. It could quite easily give you those pop ups once you exit game mode. Just disappointing that it hasn't been included. I've been using the Plus version since 2005 and had expected by now. Although I have to confess, I have never asked for it.

It doesn't appear that there has been a German localization created in a few years. The localization versions are created by volunteers. Bill does have available a few language packs. Have you tried the Germany language pack yet? Available from http://www.winpatrol.com/download.html

If you still have problems, contact Bill at support@winpatrol.com.

Looks like the table needs adjustment. I'll pass it along.

Well, consider your request submitted. I'll pass along your suggestion.

Following up on my question, since you say WP would not block a rootkit from infecting my MBR, will it stop it from executing, or simply tell me that my system has been compromised? o_O

    PS. Your link is broken.

Thanks for the correct link, TH!

Rootkits don't automatically appear on a computer. Some component has to be downloaded/installed and run. What I see most frequently is the result of a rogue/trojan infection that downloads a rootkit component.

As you can see from the WinPatrol Features, if you are not intentionally installing software and pay attention to the alerts, you will likely avoid infection.

    • Detect and Review New Auto-Startup Programs
    • Alerted you to New Brower Add-Ons like BHO's and Tool Bars
    • Alerts you to newly installed Window Services
    • Alerts you and Locks Changes to File Type Associations
    • Alerts you to newly registered ActiveX components
    • Alerts you to changes in IE Home and Search pages
    • Alerts you to changes in the Windows HOST File

Just keep in mind that WinPatrol does not have a definitions file so it is not looking for specific processes.

WinPatrol PLUS monitors the features in real-time.
