Wouldn't have known after updating both the first two Win instances that I tried, on two separate fully updated Pro & Home laptops, one instance (A) having virtually nothing additional installed.
Then noticed the 'Update and shutdown' and 'Update and restart' options in the Start button in each case.

Then: Windows Update: Please wait ... :isay:o_O:rolleyes:

Was about to MR image back instance (A) when WU completed! So just left instance (B) WU running ... and it eventually (15 mins?) also completed.
Some transient server issue, or batch process?

No other apparent issues, but may wait with my other 3 instances for now ... :cautious:

Edit: 4 / 5 done, same everywhere. 'They also serve who stand and wait' (for 15 mins). :D
Still not offered on one (vanilla) Win 10 instance (but updated on other instance on same Dell XPS laptop). :doubt:

After an update I always check this, and Fast startup to make sure it is still off.

I tried this and it worked fine. Things are getting weird with these updates.
    Thanks paulderdash!

While I'm at it, I also check this one after one of these type of updates:
"A slow service does not start due to time-out error in Windows"
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...and-events-7000-and-7011-are-logged-in-window
They seem to blow out this value from the registry. It is a particular problem for SQL Server and/or VMware Workstation. If the services do not start up within the 30 second default they don't start without manual intervention.

    Nothing on mine either.

For other users wanting to see if this happens on their machine, click on start-up tab and just right-click on one of the headings (e.g. Publisher) and select 'running now'

Yes, I got this too just now. It's the latest (10:30 pm Eastern Time) I've ever gotten an update and it went thru just fine. I also saw a benefit from the required Insiders telemetry for which I'm oddly grateful: I've had periodic Event id 27 warnings where the Intel Ethernet connection was disconnected. I was always leery of those optional driver updates but got an Intel NET update automatically today and so far, so good. No warnings (yet).

Indeed drivers updates are now managed by Windows Update, in the past one had to check with Device Manager.

I installed 20H2 clean and I'm still getting ghosts from deleted files and shortcuts on the desktop like I did in 20H1. That bug apparently has carried over.

you mean screen ghosting? what's that got to do with the os? it's a hardware issue.
