Window Washer trial version

I downloaded the Webroot Window Washer trial version yesterday. I went through the process of installing it and then tried to run it and it wouldn't. It told me that my trial period had expired and I've not used it nor have I installed it before! I'm using Windows XP Professional SP2 with AVG virus, Comodo Firewall Pro, and Webroot Spysweeper. I was hoping a "reboot" would help but it didn't. I uninstalled it and then went into the registry and deleted everything that mentioned Window Washer, checked the folders to make sure there weren't any orphans left, rebooted and installed it again but the same thing happened. I also downloaded it again hoping of a bad download but the same thing happened with it. Has anyone had or heard of this problem and if so, what do I do? If the trial program is this bad, should I just forget it? Thanks for your time!

 

Save your time and money. This program called "Ccleaner" is the equivalent of Window Washer. Window Washer is a good program but really doesn't clean any more than the free Ccleaner:

CCleaner is an excellent free cleaner, check it out before paying for a shareware program.

 

I'm using Ccleaner now but is it enough? I have read where others use Ccleaner and other software to clean what Ccleaner doesn't. For example, Window Washer has plug ins for other programs that Ccleaner doesn't. Do we really need these plug ins? Thanks everyone for your response!

 

If you want something additional to Ccleaner there are many free programs available. I really have not grown attached to any of them though as it seems many will eventually delete a file your OS or some program needs to run. However there is the Ashampoo WinOptimizer 4 for free as a promo here-

You'll get emails every few days from ashampoo about promotions. So if you are opposed to that you'll need to register with a requisite email accordingly. If you like WinOptimizer 4 and want to upgrade to version 5 you will eventually get a promo to upgrade for like $9.99 or so.

 

There is a little file called "Winapp2.ini" which you drop in your program files/ccleaner folder and that has plugins that are updated. For more info go here:

Well Window Washer is very good. It has scheduling (well CCleaner has it but you have to manually add the task) and more plugins than CCleaner and I think it also cleans all users?

Actually i'm using both Ccleaner and Windowwasher to clean garbage off my computer.I haven't had any problems so far.By the way this is with Vista.

 

I use Ccleaner several times throughout the day, but every so often I run Sweepi, then Ccleaner (plus the registry scan), then R-Wipe (I go through each category), I restart the computer so R-Wipe can wipe the MFT or slack or whatever, then I run Advanced Windows Care and then activate Returnil. That has worked very well for me.

 

Just an update on this situation. I logged on the Webroot support web site and send them a question as to why I can't "try" the trial version. I told them that I got the "trial expired" message the first time I tried to use it and how I had uninstalled, installed, rebooted, etc. to try to get it to work. Well, I received their response this morning giving me a number to call for their support. I went back and updated my question with this statement: "No thanks! If I have to call support just to "try" a trial version, I'll purchase another brand!" Apparently, they don't care if they make a sale or not.

Well if that happens to me I personally wouldn't use any of their products for a very long time and advice others to do the same.

 

Actually, that is the way I feel also. I have used Webroot SpySweeper for some time now and it it time to renew it. I had planned to do so before this happened but now I'm having second thoughts. I have to admit that Spysweeper hasn't given me any problems and has done very well on protecting me. But, if I can find one equal to this, I will use it instead. Any suggestions?

Definitely SAS and MBAM are far superior to Spy Sweeper in real-world malware. They are both very light and have excellent support. But you should probably add a behavioural blocker if you use SAS/MBAM.

Yes it does. It will list them all in Classic Mode.

 

What is the 30-50 stuff exactly? What folder? What files?

Because I have personally analysed all the folders and files that are a privacy and security concern on Windows, and ccleaner gets them all. So these "30-50" extra stuff is not need to be wiped anyway.

Are you sure it's everything? I highly doubt any one program will remove every single application's data.

I meant... ccleaner doesn't leave behind any sensitive data. If you think it does, what does the other program clean that ccleaner doesn't, that would be classified as critical sensitive and private data?

 

I know. I was agreeing with you. I was just adding that in Classic mode, you can see what it finds.

 

I ran it (Sweepi) for the first time after running R-Wipe, Ccleaner, and Advanced Windows Care, and it came up with quite a bit. The only thing that I remember that I recognized was thumbs.db. I don't know what the other stuff was. But it seemed to make a difference in the way my computer ran after cleaning. It was faster and smoother.
