Hope I'm posting this, to right spot; if not, move me accordingly.

Our PC seems to lose/misplace" file associations (I think it would be) now and then; currently, the PC will play music CDs, but seems not to function if I want to install a program, from a CD. Ideas for a fix, on this?

Other, thornier problem perhaps having to do w/RAM as was the case once before, is this: now and then the PC gets stuck in a loop of checking/restoring the Reg., and goes on and on like that, til I go to safe mode Cmd line prompt, and manually copy backup files (system.dat, user.dat, etc.), to the WIN dir. to give it a "boot in the" hard drive. Works then, but I find that annoying to go through, and I wondered if anyone has thoughts on why that loop happens, and how to preferably prevent it, to begin with(?)

    Ideas vastly appreciated, as always.
    Cheers, SG1 (Pat)

    Hi SG1,
i can only react on the cd thing:
it can even happen only otriginal program cd's are read and not the self burned ones.
Had it a few times, which i solved with deleting the cd-rom from the system reboot and let windows reinstall in automatically. Maybe yours needs own drivers, if you have it's original software you'll know soon enough.
Do you ever clean the lense with a cleansing cd-rom?
