Nice stats for the unwary but nonetheless 10 IMHO will end up toast eventually unless of course the gullibility of constantly being funnel fed updates to lands end is a better cup of tea. And of course if the user's machine SSD-HDD can withstand the strain. Notwithstanding those updates that borked out but then most smart 10 users keep an everyready Image handy in those events. Big mistake Microsoft.
I've been running Windows 10 on multiple computers since it was released. The only computer on which I ever have issues with updating, is my primary laptop on which I'm constantly installing and uninstalling software and I have not done a clean install of Windows on, for three years. Sometimes updates to new builds of Windows fail to install. But, when that happens, nothing get broken, I'm just stuck with the build I was already running. On my other computers, I've never have any issues with updates. One of my laptops, is 12 years old and Windows 10 run very well on it. It runs so well, it would be pointless to use an older version of Windows on it, as there would be very little difference in performance.
I run now only a single system with Windows 10-Cortana aside the new O/S is so much more attractive, at least for me where concerns it's video player. It's stable yes, very much so that in all the months it's seen usage not a single issue. Oh occasionally it can go online but not for long. I just don't think that it's been fair of them to add so much tracking and telemetry and believe that it goes much farther then they will ever let on about because frankly as improved as it seemingly now is, why so much of that. With the much improved Windows Defender they've all but fashioned finally a respectable AV and it's built-in. Cortana would be a milestone of sorts if it didn't demand a live net connection to their servers. AI IMO is not truly in reality an AI until it is able to run locally on it's own and communicating within the system and it's internal preprogrammed-and machine learning without having to draw on outside communication to carry out tasks-perform productive interaction with the user uninhibited by that dependency. The updates and fixes, while maybe needed, are just way off the charts too much and seem to me anyway to add to already constant background activity which never seems to abate or rest, and maybe that's by design. But it sure seems to put a heavy demand on any machine just in order to support what's coming in and what's going out per networking activity. It's not so much conspiracy and privacy issues that seem are pressing, which is been an irritant for many, but with all that it requires to run as THEY expect, for me it's the ever present and ongoing interruptions for this and that which is running in the background and is sure to prove to be too much at some point. This is been my biggest beef since a Windows 9 could have been a better served version to iron out all the issues that have cropped up and continue to raise some concerns as they use 10 to conduct their improvement experimentation while tooting the horn all the while that this version is the last and best they plan to offer the general public-customer of this O/S. Why I like 8.1 best. Simple, solid, dependable as 10 IMO if not more, with a whole lot less interference or other technical issues that are being fed into the ongoing updates with it. Now i'll keep my big mouth shut. I always been a critic but only for constructive purposes all along and actually a diehard supporter of the Windows System/Version which proves works best with the least amount of hassle or any other time consuming production inhibiting features.
Very few knowledgeable system users are influenced by these statistics. I expect OEMs and enterprise CTOs may look at them and take note. StatCounter has a rival named Netmarketshare. Both sites compile their data by watching traffic to real live websites. Netmarketshare says that it considers “100 million valid sessions per month, widely distributed over thousands of websites.” StatCounter says its methodology sees it work “on the basis of more than 10 billion page views per month, by people from all over the world onto our 2 million+ member sites.” And they disagree on OS market share usage every time they publish. Microsoft have their own collection methodology and they choose not to share those stats with the public. At shareholder conferences they (at times) produce those stats, but they differ widely from those produced by the 2 big stat companies. None of them will ever be a true representation of world wide OS usage - not all systems are network facing and in many countries there is no access to the data. Overall, the majority of the stats do not represent user choice. In the enterprise, the CTO makes the choice for the end-user systems and of course there is the alliances that OS vendors have with their business partners that dictate what OS will be available on new hardware. OS end of life of any OS is the determining factor. The stats are not an indication of which OS version is the best. It merely shows the speed of the adoption rates within a given period of time.
Chose "Other" because I've already moved to Win 10 a few months ago. Other than the telemetry stuff, so much of which can be tamed to some extent, I like Win 10. I find it runs stable, seems to make good use of RAM, and I've never once had issues with updates. The Windows Defender has come a long ways too, though admittedly it needs some improvement. Three machines in the household use it: two laptops and a gaming desktop, all very new hardware.
No I have no need for Windows even as of right now. I don't really waste my time playing PC games, which requires a person to have a Windows OS by the way, so I have no need for Windows even as of right now. I'm using Linux right now, as I have since 2012. I stopped using Windows entirely a few months ago, because I am now realizing how crappy and lousy Windows is...it is so vulnerable to malware that can completely destroy your computer. Plus Windows is essentially NSA/CIA/FBI approved spyware, and who would want to be using that other than sheeple? Well, I'm not a sheeple, so I don't use the sheeple OS of choice, which is Windows.
If it's the only way to play games, Linux might be a contender by 2020 more like 2040. Happy with 7x64 for now.
Using Edge on a standard account with Simple Software Restrictions installed? I'll believe it when I see it. I'll keep using Windows 10, presumably forever. Paid 20 bucks for a Windows 10 Pro key and I'm never looking back.
I have finally decided to go with both Windows and Linux. I'll keep the W7 systems as is (dual boot), due to the age of these particular systems. I'll drop W7 Ultimate altogether and if the hardware is still performing well, it will become a 100% Linux system. W7 Pro will stay operational (w/layered security) and dual boot Linux until the hardware has major issues. The family has become more interested in Linux since W10 came out. We have W10Pro and only one family member uses it more than W7. There have been moans and groans when W10 has had patching issues and inconceivable curiosities reign down at random, but overall we have not suffered much. Family computing wants and needs are always a consideration. The younger ones are off Windows altogether. Desktop as a service is not something that I would relish. It appears that Microsoft have that in mind for W10 enterprise, but I do not know how the consumer and non enterprise will fit into the strategy. Year 2025 will be a milestone year for Microsoft.
Stay with Windows. No question whatsoever. Right now on Win 10 Pro for the past several months and all seems fine. I have Win 8.1 Pro backed up on an external drive and, should 10 start giving me problems, I'll return to 8.1. I want to like Linux, and have tried playing with it in VM, but it just isn't as user friendly as Windows, and I'm not sure Linux users want it to be friendly or easy to use. Apple is an option, maybe next laptop. I like the Apple OS a lot, but not the price of their computers. Honestly, I think if I could download one of the latest versions of the OS and install it on this HP Windows machine, I'd switch tomorrow.
I've been entirely Windows free for nearly a year now. It's the best year I've ever experienced with computers.
Of course, Windows 10 is the only OS that runs what I need, also, to be frank, I like its interface and environment.
I will stay on 8.1 as long as I can. It's pretty stable on my system, modern enough (for my needs) and with no bloatware. Didn't have a single issue with it since 2015 and all programs and games I use are running smoothly (even the old ones). Probably on Win 10 I will notice some performance boost but I am satisfied with the current state of my system so far. Time will tell.

I've long considered buying one, but sadly I find it difficult to justify paying that much for a portable computer
I've mentioned before that I'll be sticking with Windows and my opinion has not changed. Windows 10 is fast, stable and with just a little bit of care, it's extremely hard to get infected. As long as that is the case for me, it would not make any sense to switch to an alternative. An example of how well Windows 10 works for me, is that's it's been nearly four weeks since I rebooted my laptop and I use it for around 12 hours a day, every day.
I've been considering one for years, it's either that or another Linux laptop. Windows isn't even an option.
