Well first of all, let me reiterate that I said Advanced+ and Advanced - I did not specifically state it had to remain in the "top" position. To say it once more, all I was trying to get across was that I would want Norton to remain a solid product with decent performance in multiple aspects for several years before I would recommend it. I would not recommend it based on being a top performer for one or two years since it has been horrible for so long. That is all I was trying to state.

    And lastly,

    My point exactly.

Recommending what is best for the year (or sadly even half-year) is almost never going to be the same for two years straight; therefore, I refuse to do it. I recommend blacklist-based products that prove themselves over time and I would rather have a product that is rated only Advanced but earns that consistently, rather than a product that manages an Advanced+ one year, then swoops down to Standard the next. Additionally, I want a product I can rest assured is under rigorous, proactive development with above average customer support.

For my personal use, I place much more confidence in white-listing security measures.

norton customer support is actually 1st class at moment both for users directly and resellers, white listing can lead to far more false+ves(or should that be false -ves?)than blacklisting, unless you create your own and only use or expect to use a limited number of apps

Avast's score makes more sense if you read paragraph under the "protection" heading and then read the section under the graph about the half credit. IMHO it didn't do bad. It looks terrible if you look at the graph only.

Will a Norton engineer connect to your PC remotely and fix any problem due to their product not being able to remove a virus for FREE, do so within 2 business days, AND achieve all that just by filing a support ticket?

It is true that white-listing is generally more for intermediate to advanced users, but in reality, it can be accomplished with merely Windows itself (as well as additional products) and aside from minor inconveniences when installing software, it can provide comprehensive, proactive protection without any impact on performance. It is, as far as I'm concerned, the ONLY method of security that has the potential to be 100% effective, of course aside from any holes in the white-listing method/product, (though I have yet to witness any convincing, solid proof-of-concepts demonstrating a major flaw in Windows Software Restriction Policy or AppLocker if they are configured properly).

Of course, the catch with white-listing is that its effectiveness depends largely on the user and the setup. If the choice to allow or deny something is given to an ignorant user, and they allow it, the white-listing security is useless. Correct deployment of white-list security measures is paramount. In a default deny environment where the user is given no choice, security can be near guaranteed, though obviously inconvenience level may be high.

I probably should stop discussing my own "two cents" and let the conversation carry on about the original topic of this thread - the Whole Product Dynamic test results....

They do offer immediate "live" support to customers, you may have to queue for a few mins, why should they connect to your PC for free to remove a virus not detected/be removed, how busy would all vendors have been with doing that for TDSS when that 1st came on the scene, don't think anything removed successfully for about 2 months

Although the effectiveness of Webroot SecureAnywhere is still not fully determined, I can say with 100% confidence that Webroot/Prevx support is infinitely better than what you just described for Norton.

They WILL connect to your PC for free to remove something their product has failed to. It is in their interest to do so actually, so that they can fix it promptly so they won't have to do it for others.

Like I said though, I do not wish to discuss this here anymore as I was mistaken to use this thread.

so only one vendor meets your criteria?pity rest of product isn't as good, and your more likely to need their support!(lol)
And to be honest I'm not sure that many customers would be happy letting any company connect remotely to their PCs,paranoia seems very prevalent nowadays and most want to keep their files private

Also taken that into account it looks pretty bad (for what it's worth).
