    Hello,

I recommend using GParted to partition your hard disk. I used it when I tried dual-booting Windows and Linux. It is really easy to use (not to mention free!).

thanks for the replies and info

i found and used ' FREE EASEUS Partition Manager Home Edition V1.6.4 ':
    http://www.partition-tool.com/

    installed w2k - C, partition into 2 halves, 3rd partition - F and installed xp
didn't use a boot manager since the choice of which os to use appears
    during booting

only thing i couldn't do was format/delete the C later, asked why not on
the easeus forum, will see what they say
