Does uranium do exclusion by file type for compression?
I dont really want to compress jpgs or avi since they are fairly well compressed already.

I cannot see the feature on their site.

Currently using syncback but it is a pain and doesnt have this feature.

Currently having an eye on Vidiot. Still in alpha stage and I haven't tried it myself. But looks promising.

 

MKVTooNix and X-Avidemux are very useful, I hate re-encoding unless necessary. Freemake Video Converter is the best if you need conversion (CUDA+DXVA, output file size, etc.)

 

I gotta disagree about that one though. Not much control the last time I tried it. And no manual cropping.

BTW, were you replying to me or you just stated what are you playing with currently? Because if it's the former, I'm looking for a simple video editor with timeline where I can place the videos, audios, and images to create sequences of movies. WLMM has failed me.

 

I did say conversion instead of editing right? What do you mean by manual cropping anyways, how is that different from the "Cutting" provided?

There are 2 manual cropping methods that I know of, well okay, 5:
1. A rectangle you can adjust as you wish.
2. Entering values of pixels you want to remove, with the ability to enter values of all sides (top, bottom, left, right).
3. Same thing with #2, except only be able to enter values of 2 sides (usually bottom and right).
4. A combination of #1 and #2, with all sides are available for you to enter the values.
5. A combination of #1 and #2, with only 2 sides available for you to enter the values.

Simple, because the auto-cropping mode in FVC (or other video converters/editors) is crappy. Crappy, because it's very inaccurate and often cut too much or too little. That auto-cropping feature is more like an auto-zooming feature.

 

Oh, I thought you meant cropping the timeline. MKVToolNix supports that without re-encoding. You can input any video file, but the output file container is always MKV.

 

Nuuu. The timeline was about video editing. Well, cropping is editing anyway. But when it's about conversion, FVC is not adequate enough for me. No CRF mode is probably the most irritating issue.

Yeah, I remember about that one. It worked great but the input is limited. But when I was still using it, no joined videos got out of sync.

 

By "MKVToolNix supports that" I meant video cropping, not the timeline which I haven't tried. I always use Avidemux for the timeline.

Another great multimedia software is MediaInfo. I use the 64-bit portable version and add a shortcut to my "Send to" menu.

Then there's MusicBrainz Picard and VideoCacheView. I use the latter with YouTube Center (disable DASH) to grab virtually all my online music and videos.

 

MKVTooNix doesn't have a timeline mode a la WMM or WLMM, I know about that. For basic editing (like cropping) and conversion tasks I have XMR.

Hold it, Avidemux has a timeline mode now? You know, like in WMM or WLMM.

 

By timeline I mean the long bar where you can select which part of the video to go to. Editing that to me means shortening the video to specific scenes or lengthening it by adding data, or maybe even changing the playback speed. Avidemux should do that without re-encoding, although without the pretty thumbnails.

MKVToolNix can crop the video you see itself without re-encoding. That includes changing the aspect ratio, display width/height, etc. I love these tools due to the time they save me and zero loss in quality.

More software I'm using include FastStone Image Viewer, jPdf Tweak, and XnConvert. I combine all three to save manga onto my Kindle 3. First, XnConvert is used to rotate all horizontal pages to vertical so I can better see the text. Then FastStone Image Viewer batch convert/resize them to medium quality PDF. Finally, jPdf Tweak is used to combine them into one compressed file.
