What files in AppDefend and RegDefend can a user say off in case of a disk crash or whatever that can be copied back/restored into the AppDefend and RegDefend folder to restore all the programs and permissions so that a user does not have to "re-teach" RegDefend and AppDefend concerning the application permissions and registry permissions per applicaton/process?

It can become quite time consuming to get RegDefend and AppDefend back into the desired "allows/blocks", etc. Each update thus far has always wiped out RegDefend's info; however, the most recent update carried over the info for AppDefend.

    Hi Siliconman,

A smarter "rule updating" procedure is going to need to take place I feel for future versions, once AppDefend is out the door I will begin work on this to make sure people don't lose their rulesets.

What do you have in mind? I'm quite happy with the import/export feature,:) save your rules in groups or as a whole.;)

    I have a clarifying question:

Can those two files continue to be used to bring the next version of the suite up-to-date in the forseeable future? Is there anything that still needs to be exported if those two files are replaced? If I've misunderstood, what is the easiest way to update each version to all the settings of the previous one?

    Thanks for your help... Quinn

    Hi Quinnk,
Those two files contain the rules set for each app,as in the registry keys/values etc for RD,and the app list for AD,i think,if i remember correctly,GSS stores the settings (as in, 'run when windows starts' and 'auto check update' etc.) in the registry, something like HKLM\SOFTWARE\GhostSecurity. Which you can export before updateing, and then import back in.

Thanks... I've only had GSS for about 3 days, and noticed there's quite a bit of info building up and being tweaked that would be nice to retain in the next version.

    I appreciate it... Quinn
