Waze to share traffic data with UK transport authorities via Google Cloud
The crowd-sourced road and map data app will allow UK transport authorities to analyse data to aid their traffic plans

The company has announced it will make its Waze for Cities Data available on the Google Cloud Platform for 12 initial partners in the UK.

That includes transport authorities covering the West Midlands, Oxfordshire, Essex, Greater Manchester, Leeds, Middlesbrough and London.
The anonymous data, which has been collected since April this year, will enable authorities to review and analyse transport patterns, using that information to help with traffic planning in the future.

StateScoop: Waze launches data-sharing integration for cities with Google Cloud

The integration is Waze’s attempt at solving two of the biggest data problems that cities have today, Simons told StateScoop. For some cities in the U.S., Waze is one of the several private companies sharing transit data with them. Other cities are drowning in data from traffic sensors, city-owned fleets data or private mobility companies.

The Google integration is meant to increase the volume and simplicity of data that cities have, so that they can create real standards around their mobility options, Simons said.
