W32 Kill Win

Just ran into this beasty on both my computers. Source unknown along with some joke junk. A2 scanner free seems to have killed them but I am wondering if threatfire would have protected my computers against this if they had tried to execute.

 

It possibly could have. IMHO you should rather pay for A-squared Antimalware though, so you can have their Malware IDS and use their own scanner + Ikarus virus engine on realtime.

But otherwise TF is a great IDS and will protect you very well. It does have a huge signature database as well so it offers great protection.

 

Thank you I actually got a free license for A2 personal from Gaotd. It ran using so much memory on ,my computer I gave up on it. I could use it on my computer though. I would probable bring my wifes computer to a dead halt as it only has 448 memory. I do have NOD 32 also. any suggestions on a firewall that is compatable I know I can run A2 with outpost.

 

Most well known firewalls are compatible. If you have a particular one in mind please tell so we can offer advice

 

Comodo version 3 whatever or PCTFW come to mind.

 

Well if you don't mind the popups then Comodo

If you like good protection with less popups go with PCTFW.

IMHO I like PCTFW it has great protection and when I do computer repairs I recommend it too everyone, especially for novice users, like your wife.
