Hi I have had this issue bugging me a for a while now.

Lets say I am connected to a VPN in France and I try to visit a UK website, it will automatic load up the French version of that site and all written in french.

I have been disconnecting and connecting to a UK VPN just to connect to that site so it can display in English, but is there a easier work around so I can stay connected to a France VPN or other and still visit my site in UK in UK/English?

Sites usually let you choose language.

yeah I have been making do with doing that option but its difficult to read Spanish or French etc

Was considering using a free proxy but hear proxys can be dangerous.

I will give a few other ideas out to test and see how it is.

Have you looked into your browser config? In firefox type in about:config and look for the preferred language under General.useragent.locale. You only should have en-GB. With this setting you should get English if available.

Maybe you could check the entry intl.accept_languages as well. It should be en-GB.

    thx will try this out.

I was more thinking of VPN tunnelling to a UK VPN or US VPN that way the website should just pop up in English. I am not in a position to test this just yet but will try :)

Am very surprised no one has this issue would have thought most VPN guys connect to Netherlands or Holland VPN and then surely they too have a pain in the neck when they launch websites from US/UK and it comes up all dutch....

    I hear you :D

I was thinking for short term to connect to a US VPN and then tunnel to one in europe and simply disconnect when I require a US site....

Feels long in the tooth and long winded, I hear a few people route there connection so wireless is not running on the VPN only the network ports are VPN enabled.

Always solutions available just got to find one that works and is simple to do:)

I tried VPN tunneling with security kiss just as a test.

    So I connected to

VPN 1 (Sweden) then to VPN 2 (UK)

And then tried visiting some UK websites but nope some still came out in Swedish:D

I think it still remembers the 1st VPNs exist IP/DNS details which tells the websites to remain in Sweden. Shame since some websites do not have an change language button.

Only other idea I guess is to connect to a UK or US VPN provider 1st, then tunnel to Amsterdam or sweden, but I hate the idea of connecting a country that does not value privacy !

The hunt continues for a more easier plan....

Could you provide an example, a website?

I don't have the feeling that it does happen all the time. If there are options I get the English version. Of course, if a website is in Swedish, it stays in Swedish.:D But I guess you are just visiting different websites that I don't know of.

I'd like to try and see what I get?

I was going to mention it but I retried connecting to another server close by and it popped right up in English :)

So issue sorted for some reason connecting to this one vpn server in europe made it all connect to that locations language.... either way fixed and happy:)

Some websites have a little button that gives you the option to choose what language you want to use. Like file sharing services and social networks, etc... But the website that you visit sees your IP address as the IP of whatever country your exit node is in. And then it gives you the language that they think you speak. So you can either search for a little button or drop down menu at the bottom or top of page somewhere, or you can visit that webpage in Chrome or Comodo Dragon and at the top of the page it will automatically offer to translate the page for you. The VPN provider does not have any control over web pages and the ways in which they display their pages. And if a web page offers different languages, as a courtesy they will automatically off the language of the country they see you as coming from.
