I sure hope not. Vipre is a very good anti virus product from all the testing I have done personally and it very, very light on resources. That's why I bought it and that's why I always recommend it to others.

For what it's worth, a couple of names on the Sunbelt team come to mind:

Michael St. Neitzel - VP Threat Research
Michael is responsible for managing and spearheading Sunbelt's threat research initiatives and leading development efforts to deliver cutting-edge detection methods that that not only combat today's complex types of viruses, spyware and malware, but also respond to emerging malicious threats.

Michael is widely regarded as one of the foremost experts on malware and its malicious mechanisms, and has authored a number of technical papers and publications, as well as participates regularly as a noted speaker at industry conferences. Michael comes to Sunbelt from FRISK Software, makers of F-Prot Antivirus, where he was a senior antivirus architect and company spokesperson. Prior to FRISK Software, he was a senior virus researcher with ESET s.r.o., where he worked on the NOD32 antivirus product. Previously, he was with Comodo Security, where he managed the team responsible for the Comodo firewall and antivirus products as executive director in Chennai, India. His expert opinion on computer security topics is frequently quoted in major newspapers, online media and television channels.

Michael has a long history of innovation and experience in complex, low-level programming, starting with assembler programming for the Sinclair ZX-Series and later for Commodore platforms, where he wrote Air Combat Emulator (Plus/4) and Hexen (C64); and for the Amiga, the Amiga Basic Compiler and Amiga Chess. It was during his development of Amiga software that he and Manfred Leidorf wrote one of the first antivirus programs for bootsector scanning in the world.

Eric Howes - Director of Malware Research
Eric Howes is responsible for spearheading Sunbelt's threat research initiatives and manages the talented efforts of Sunbelt's threat research team. Formerly an instructor and researcher at the University of Illinois, Eric has been studying spyware behavior for over five years. Widely regarded as one of the foremost experts on spyware and its malicious mechanisms, Howes has served as a panelist at the CNET Antispyware Workshop and is an active and well-known participant in many of the security forums dedicated to spyware research including SpywareWarrior.com and DSLReports.com/BroadbandReports.com.He regularly updates and maintains a number of spyware block lists, including the IE-SPYAD Restricted sites list for Internet Explorer, to supply internet users with resources to protect their privacy and security on the internet. In recognition of this work, Microsoft awarded him its MVP (Most Valued Professional) Award

So what are you saying? I dont get this post at all. If you are saying that is where the info came from, I have a hard time thinking that. I really think the only good source would be Sunbelt. Damn, we are good at finding the Holy Grail here.:cautious:

Source in fact is the Sunbelt website. I should have been more complete in my post.
Actually. I'm not sure what either of our post(s) are saying. My intent was merely to mention that a couple of the acknowledged security experts are with Sunbelt. And I leave the Holy Grail matter to Dan Brown...:D

well if true and they are selling a lifetime license for a product they know will be gone in a year they should be blacklisted from all sites.

Now having said these, it is Sunbelt and from my dealings have always been very customer oriented. So yes Vipre may be gone but I am sure that lifetime fee will only prove to be a value in a year. There are a lot of folks credibility riding on this and they are good people.

If we look at Nostradamus's work we would probably find something to do with it, That guy is so cryptic xD

Also my source used to work for sunbelt and is a close personal friend of mine, So i dont want to give his name out because it could hurt his personal career.

But people are probably gonna chastise me for saying what i was told but i thought it was worth a mention to the members here.

@TheIgster, if you want to upgrade your 2 user license to the lifetime, that's fine, just contact me off-list.

@3DFireStarteR, I really am completely baffled by your statements. We are absolutely firmly committed to VIPRE for the long run. I consider myself as good a source as any...

Generally speaking, regarding this HSN thing, it was a test we did with them. HSN came to us and asked if we could do a special promotion with them for a special license that would be for the lifetime of the PC (not the lifetime of the company, or my lifetime). I approved the test and they did it, and now we're going to do some more selling through HSN. Right now, it's exclusive to HSN.

Because it was a test, graphics were done quickly, and unfortunately, we discovered later that the current "Unlimited Home Site License" package was used in the graphics. It is not an unlimited home site license. It's a one-user license, for the lifetime of the PC. I am trying to get this graphic corrected.

As always, feel free to email me directly if you ever have questions, gripes or just want to discuss the weather.

    Hi, folks:

lifetime license at US$ 99.00 ? can these people read the business news ?

during this recession, everyone including high rollers are shy from visiting fine diners, drinking expense wines. Most people are,

buying fuel efficient cars, or even debating to purchase those $300 netbook PC, .

Now they dare to roll out a software (no physical shape) for $ 99.00 (lifetime or not is absolutely irrelevant). Barking the WRONG tree, sirs.

I am testing Norman virus control with a free three year lic, yes, free for a three solid years. Sunbelt's offer just make me feel very sick !!!.

Folks at Sunbelt, please go back to college, to retake economy 101, then, think and talk. This offer will NEVER fly in consumer field, this mentality exactly explains why their empire holds ONLY 10% revenue from non-enterprise.

I don't know anything about VIPRE, but if it a good application I see nothing wrong. I have bought three lifetime licenses, and one lasted several years and I got my money's worth. The other two, Win Patrol, and SAS, are still going strong.

If VIPRE is a top notch AV the amount is a good deal unless it goes away in under 4 years. If it lasts for 3 years one cannot lose much in my opinion.

    Regards,
    Jerry

That's fine, I trust this person i got my info from, If you think that my Info is wrong that is fine too, I just like to make statements that i believe to be beneficial to the members here.

But as i say you may prove it wrong and if you do then everyone benefits so there's really no problem here :)

I believe if anyone could give the most accurate information, it would be Alex. I can't fathom that Sunbelt would put all of that time into research, development, and marketing just to pull their consumer product so quickly. It seems to be doing fine and hopefully will only get better. It is a fine addition to the antivirus software segment.

A lifetime subscription is great, but whose lifetime? yours or theirs. If they go out of business next week or sell out you are screwed.

Well, lot's of things can happen in life. Sunbelt has been around for quite some time. They have always been responsive when I have asked for any information or support. Any company can go out of business tomorrow...nobody knows.

I still think this is a very good offer from what has been a good company to me and I'm not sure why so many are making fun of it.

This is new to me. How is the "life of a PC" determined? Is it tied to the motherboard? The hard disk? To ALL components and so if one changes the license is void? o_O

So basically if one buys a license and his PC gets fried the next day because of a power surge during a storm, his "lifetime" license is over?

This is new to me too lol. This would be completely ridiculous. Any other security software with a lifetime license would simply require that you only have it installed on one pc at a time, but to say it is good for only the life of one pc:eek: . o_O I am guessing they won't be selling too many of these lifetime licenses especially since their product hasn't been around long enough to be thoroughly tested.

I have used many Sunbelt products in the past and from my experience I would stay away from any of their software. Just look at how they took the most beloved free firewall at the time..Kerio and just butchered it into complete uselessness. Sunbelt is more of a marketing company, hence this lifetime license only on HSN. Don't ever give them your real email address or you will be junk mailed into insanity.

I'm sorry, but this post is a lot of rumor and make belief. Pure FUD.

I have used Vipre pretty much since it went into beta on several systems here without issue and it has saved my butt a couple of times.

I've also installed it on many customer machines and they are happily surfing the Internet without issue as well.

I get one email from them weekly which is their newsletter. I can stop getting that email anytime I want.

I have had an excellent experience to date with Sunbelt and Vipre and would highly recommend them and their product.

I can't comment on the firewall issue you posted as I've never used it, but please don't make stuff up about a company and the way they operate.

    Igster-
I agree with you completelt. Over the past several years, I have used their firewall, their Counterspy product and have been using Vipre for almost a year. I am quite satisfied with their performance and likewise have never received any spam from them.:thumb:
