    Hi,

Since version 3.0.667 of ESS (french) when I open Utorrent my connections are never very faster than 1ko? Also, navigating internet with firefox 3.0 is very, very slow so as checking and downloading my emails with OE. In reality, when Utorrent is open every software that goes on the internet became very, very slowo_O

What is the problem and is there a solution?

    Thanks,
    Atomas31

Hi, I'm not sure why it would be slower after .667. A couple things you could try: Switch to interactive mode if you're not already using it.

Also, manually add a rule for utorrent:

On the 'General' tab, the 'Direction' should be 'Both' and the 'Action' should be set to 'Allow'.

On the 'Local' tab click 'Browse' to add the utorrent executable. Let us know if that helps.

    That prompts a question:

Do custom rules work in Automatc Mode or must we use Interactive/Policy Mode?

    Hi Eryan,

I seems to have solved my issue of my speed on downloading torrent (within Utorrent) but the impact (making everything very slow) on every other software using internet is still there (ex. : navigating with firefox and everything else accessing internet)...

    Thanks,

By impact do you mean whilst running utorrent, "every other software using internet" is slow?

If so, and check Event viewer for 'Event ID 4226' - you are probably reaching the limit of simultaneous connection attempts.

Yes, that is what I mean.

What or where is Event viewer? I never had this problem before :doubt:

Also check the system temp folders - if there are thousands of redundant files it might slow down the scan speed of archives.

Where do I go to check the system temp folders? I regularly clean my temp file with some software (like Window Washer and ultra wincleaner one click!) so I doubt that this is where lye the problem (problem that I didn't have before version 3.0.667?)...

control panel > Administrative tools > event viewer
or start > run > and type eventvwr.msc

then go to the System log and look for the above messages (hint: you can sort by Event IDs , and hence find 4226 if there are any, relatively quickly).

If you find some, you know that windows is limiting the outbound attempts at that time.

    Hi Denno,

Ok, I check and I have seen no error 4226. I suppose that mean that windows is not limitating the outbound attemps!?!

    Thanks,

    Interesting.

Yes, you're correct, if there is no 4226 event id then windows won't be limiting your connection attempts.

However, your symptoms do sound very much like it. Opening utorrent/torrent file creates many connections, enough to swamp and slow down other programs accessing the internet.

Perhaps try another client to see if the problem is localised. Personally, I had an issue with utorrent slowing speeds down to 20KB/sec in total. I tried an alternative client (albeit one that hasn't had any development for a long time) called ABC and it proved much faster. I then tried the older version of Azureus and it too worked very well, so I think there was an issue with utorrent. Not sure if the issue is still current, but i just use linux box for utorrent anyway.
