Anyone tried encrypting a computer that dual boots linux and windows?
I know it would have to be done from the windows side since the feature isn't available for the linux version of Truecrypt, but I haven't tried it yet.

If you encrypt the Linux area, it won't boot.

Windows loads the decryption driver to allow it to work, so you would only be able to do System Partition encryption not the whole system drive.

You have a couple of options.

    1. Use Virtualbox to install Linux into something like C:/program files/Virtualbox , and then encrypt your whole Windows C:. This way both operating systems are encrypted. This is the way I have my system setup.

    2. Use TrueCrypt to encrypt your whole Windows C: and then install something like Ubuntu or Fedora and use the encryption option. For example I use Ubuntu alternative CD install, and choose the encrypt partition option.

I have used the 1. option, but I added a second layer of encryption by also installing Ubuntu using the encrypt option in Ubuntu.

Using these methods is the best and safest way to have both operating systems encrypted.

    Hello,
I have tried the following with success:
Encrypt operating system partition for Windows (C: ) and then repeat the procedure for Linux.
