I'm running Acronis True Image Echo Workstation on a BartPE CD and it works fine for bringing an image down to the PC, but very slow for uploading (creating an image). The image is being written to a server and it takes well over an hour (maybe 2 hrs) to write a small image. If I use the CD provided by Acronis, both up and down work quickly. I can write the image using the Acronis CD in about 15 minutes. Does anyone have any idea why writing an image up would take so long using the BartPE CD?

I just tried this on two additional PCs... all with very different hardware. On all 3 PCs, it was slow cloning up. Any ideas?

Do you have the same problem backing up to a network share on other computers or is it just when backing up to the server?

Well I didn't think it was a server issue because if we use Ghost 8.2 to create an image on the server, it goes at a respectable speed. However, I did try writing an image to 2 other servers, one with raid 5 and another with no raid. The one with raid 5 performed about the same, but the other without raid went quickly (about 10 minutes to make a 7gig image). We think raid 5 is hurting the speed (obviously reads on a raid 5 are good, but writes are notoriously slow). We will soon be experimenting with raid 10, which should give us good write speeds and decent read speeds.

    MudCrab, thanks for the info!

There is one thing that is strange about all of this. If we use Ghost 8.2 to write an image to the server, it is fast. I wonder why Ghost would work fine and True Image would be slow?
