I've been trying to recover a large file from a complete backup (USB 2 external hard drive) takes about two minutes to get the total progress to 33% then it locks up . Have tried using the boot CD to try and recover the file . it runs until 13 minutes remaining, and it locks up.

Have used the check archives, and no errors running it. True image 9 build 2289.

Any idea what my next step should be?

    Thank you

I'm not clear about what you are doing.

I would expect that you would be Exploring the image (using the Plug function in TI 9) to mount the image with a virtual drive letter and then try to copy the one large file from the mounted image to your hard drive?

However, you cannot do this from the Recovery CD because the Explore/Plug feature is not part of the Recovery CD. So, can you clarify what you are doing?

Not to take away from jmk's advice and question, but would copying the image to another internal IDE hard drive be another option for the restore you want to do ? -- on the chance that you have a flaky brand of USB controller chip, that is (aLi or something other than the reliable NEC chipset).

Otherwise, yes, I totally agree w/ jmk that for one file, big or small, I would "plug in" the image and extract only the target file.

    Hello rosina,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

Could you please clarify me the following?
    - What wizard (in Windows and rescue mode) did you run?
    - What image do you have? (the image of your hard drive/the file backup)

    Thank you.

First of all I can recover small files such as individual pictures ( jpeg) . or small text documents.

The Wizard I ran is, " recover hard disk contents or restore individual files".

Trying to restore large files from an image of my entire hard drive.

    Thank you

    Hello rosina,

Please note that when you boot from Acronis bootable CD you cannot restore the single file from the image of the entire hard drive. Acronis rescue media doesn't have the option to explore and restore the single file. So please clarify what you mean by "Have tried using the boot CD to try and recover the file . it runs until 13 minutes remaining, and it locks up."

    Thank you.

Not being too familiar with what I'm doing, I tried both methods. I booted from the rescue boot CD when the computer locked up (or stopped responding) when I initiated procedure from windows and it stopped responding. When I tried to use the boot CD to restore the file it gave the time 20 minutes remaining and then stopped responding when it got to 13 minutes remaining

    Thank you

    Thank you for the help!
Followed the instructions(Users Guide chapter 6) for the Plug function in TI 9 and copied and pasted the 6.3gb item
in proper folder and now can restore large files from Acronis true Image!

    Thank you
