    Hello,

    I am not sure why Acronis expects us to beta, heck, alpha test their products for free, but oh well..

    The latest incarnation of TI is by far most messed up release ever. I've been trying to trial all the versions since version 8 or 7, and I just can't accept a product this unstable and incomplete.

    So here it goes:

    1. Why would a software need 3 processes and 1 service for schedulling, is beyond me. And can't even wake up from standby. Especially since windows scheduller has all that. And is there, by default.

    2. The new "archive" or whatever system. It's terrible. It's totally incomplete. Has anyone even tested it? It keeps track of all old, already missing images. You can't remove archive from database without deleting associated images. It keeps generating strangely numbered images. If you want to do differential image, you select "create new" or do you select "add to existing"? If you already have an image and want to keep producing differential images, what then? You select add to? Then select what? Then select what file name? Not to mention that all the time the "next" step window shows a different filename than the one you selected. It's terrible.

    3. It's slow. Much slower than before. But I guess that's inevitable, since now we have glass windows, right? Not that this should affect backup process, but oh dear..

    Actually, I'm so upset with this software development, that I even forgot all the long list I wanted to write down....

    I am also totally frustrated with TI2009! This is version incredibly bad and no update since a month or so.

    No idea why they released so unfinished software. I think backup software has to be rock solid and I can't believe how this crappy software could have been released....

    I have no problems doing alpha or beta testing, but selling this software is a really unprofessional.

    The prior version, which arguably had even more severe bugs had only one minor update during it's one-year tenure. don't hod your breadth for any fixes before the next version comes out in about a year (without it's own new bugs and a few of the old traditional ATI ones).

    Hello mrQQ,

    Thank you for your interest in Acronis Disk Backup Software.

    Please notice that you can find information about Acronis startup processes and services in this thread, under "Why Run The True Image Services".

    To set a scheduled task to create differential backups you need to choose "Add to existing backup archive", point to the initial full backup under "Select an existing archive to update" string, and choose a name and location for the differential backup under "Backup location" string. Then, choose "Differential" at "Backup method" step of the task creation.

    You can find detailed instructions on how to use Acronis True Image Home 2009 in the respective User's Guide.

    Could you please clarify, under what conditions does the program "keep track of all old, already missing images"? Under what conditions does it "keeps generating strangely numbered images"?

    If you feel that the program is performing too slow, perhaps there is a conflict with some other software. Could you please collect some information to let us investigate it thoroughly?

    Please create Acronis Report and Windows System Information as it is described in Acronis Help Post.

    Please also collect the application log of the operation:
    - run the program;
    - select Show log on the toolbar or from the Tools menu;
    - select the corresponding log;
    - click "Save the log entry to file" (the diskette icon).

    Then submit a request for technical support or use our Live Chat service. Attach all the collected files and information to your request along with the step-by-step description of the actions taken before the problem appears and the link to this thread. We will do our best to investigate the problem and provide you with a solution.

    scharf, could you please clarify, what problems have you encountered?

    Thank you.

    Hello dear Acronis Support,

    I am pretty sure you can find numerous explanations (excuses) for using 4, or even 5, or even 10 processes. However, that doesn't make it right. With proper coding, you could make use of windows built in task scheduller, or, at the worst, manage with one process.

    Ok, so if I want to make differential backups, then I first have to _manually_ create a full backup, and then create another task to point to it? _AND_ select a different filename manually? Thats gruesome. Why the complexity? Why the need to manually select two archives? One is more than enough, just auto create different filenames!

    When I delete (some) archives from disk manually, they are still left in acronis list.

    I'm not stressing this point, since much has changed since version 9 or so, but that one was _much_ faster.

    Furthermore, I have another troubling issue with TI2009 - I have schedulled it to make image every morning, using task scheduller. I have set it to wake up from idle. It does wake up, it does make image, but then, instead of going back to sleep, I get a message in event log saying that:

    Event Type: Warning
    Event Source: Win32k
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 240

    and the PC restarts instead.

    This doesn't happen through the day, when no imaging tasks are run.

    I would like to add my two cents and say this is the absolute worst product release I've ever seen from Acronis. I've been a huge fan of Acronis for many years and have recommended it to countless others but no way can I recommend TI 2009.

    I have no interest in documenting and reporting all of the bugs I've encountered or complain about the new GUI. Back to TI 11...

    Good Luck with TI 2009.

    Yet another great example of user-friendliness and robustness:

    I've created a new task to do sector-by sector backup of a partition. I've selected "Create new archive" since this was first time, and "differential backup". I run the task, it took 1,5h at first step, and then threw an error, soemthing about not being able to read destination archive.. well, duh, of course you can't read it, it's not there, since this is first time.. So, 1,5h to a waste.

    Great job..

    Thank you for your interest in Acronis Disk Backup Software.

    Will all this foolishness never end?

    I dumped this worthless gimmick and poor coding efforts a long time ago and never have to put up with lame paraphrases and redirects to knowledge base due to pure laziness and inaffection for the paying customers who put the coffee on their drawing desks everyday.

    There should be a congressional meeting over this program.

    Ok, I'm so frustrated with TI.

    1. Doesn't send email when run from windows task scheduler, even though configured and working when run from TI.

    2. Fails to give correct file names: I already said that the interface is unbelievably complex, and I can't make it work. I want to make differential backups. Ok, so I said "create new archive" and specified a file name. Didn't work. Ok, then I made full archive myself, then selected "add to archive", selected my made full archive, entered same file name into "new archive name" field and it said that this file is part of incremental archive. What the heck. Then I edited TIS file directly. Left only one line, c_image.tib. Then it started creating c_image1(1).tib, instead of c_image1.tib, and after creating whined that can't find archive. Of course it can't find it, since it just created c_image1(1).tib and is looking for c_image1.tib!

    PLEASE FIX THAT.
