Have any of u been thinking of stockpiling tamiflu medication in advance of a possible worldwide influenza pandemic?

    http://www.tamiflu.com/

Is it ethical to do this knowing there is a perceived shortage of this drug over the next year?

    http://www.newsday.com/news/health/ny-hstami224479997oct22,0,4136757.story?coll=ny-health-headlines

Should doctors be prescribing this medication to persons who are not even sick?

If your next door neighbor was ill with the flu and u weren't but u had this drug and your neighbor did not, would u give them your medication?

I saw a survey(Canada) recently where almost everyone asked said no....

    Are u shocked by this?

I'd be really interested in opinions on this here as if this pandemic does materialize most of us will be effected in someway by this....

One thing I like about this 'Flu hysteria is that it didn't take Roche and the rest of these 'Magic Pill' manufacturers to set up a web-site with the sole intention of letting you know how 'Hard' it is to make this stuff and how it will be in short supply......."So BUY NOW whilst you can, unless you want to die....??....:D :D

Can anyone hear that loud guffawing as they make their way to the Bank....:D........

You can't beat a shortage of anything to boost the 'ole demand.....so prepare to pay well over the odds for a product that probably won't even control a particular strain of Virus......

As for what I would do if my Neighbour had the 'Flu.....I would probably go and nail all his doors and windows up and dawb a large red cross on his front door......:D :D :D :D :D

    LOL Cochise,

That's what I was thinking. Utter BS that it is so difficult to make.
The Hungarians are already testing vaccines, why aren't we?
What about testing natural remedies like the powerful boneset herb?
What are you going to take if you get the bird flu, chicken soup?
Why aren't we researching all avenues (natural and pharmaceutical) to slow or stop the spread?
How many millions of corpses does it take to make a few billion for corps?

    Talk about a cruel world.

The fear is probably overhyped too.

I have a very old Witchdoctor friend of mine, called Rumba La Bamba, (Met him for the first time this morning) and he has given me this potion to take, but only in emergency, and definitely not before he has had a chance to leave the Country, otherwise, he reckons it won't work......cost me the piddling sum of £15,000.....but what's money when your life is at stake eh?.....

Also just heard that the Virus is most likely to be carried by Ducks...so according to that, your not only going to have a streaming nose and head-ache, but your bum is quite likely to be trailing along the floor as well....can't wait.....

What about start living a healthy life? (ASAP I'd recommend...)

The only thing we 'westerners' can think of in this age is "getting a pill" for everything that is harming us...
As said above: the medicin is still doubtfull, and probably another 1.5 years away - so, that's pretty useless..:doubt:

Of course there are people, like f.e. the elderly, who are in bigger need; as for the rest it's really a matter of keeping your defenses = resistance in good shape.
And we all know what that's about: fruit & vegetables, regular living (with R&R), don't smoke, and a few other things that can make life sooo boring:blink: ;) :D

But seriously: I think for most of us, that's the best we can do right now...

    oh, and don't panic!

It is not that Tamiflu is so hard to make. It is just that the manafacturer with the patent will not allow anyone to produce the drug. There is a European country that said they could be in production of generic Tamiflu is less than a week. But they can not get permission to do so even with the severe need at the present time. They were quoted as saying that if their country has an outbreak of the bird flu they will manafacture it with or without permission.

(and yes I do have some Tamiflu on hand.)

From what I read, it matters not how good your immune system is. it kills you anyway.
During the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918 the only remedy they has was to drink epsoms salt. It is pretty much agreed now that it will mutate. Not a mater anymore of if but when.

    Okay Sir Chise,

If you are that old that you know stuff why didn't you remember to put your bi-focals on? The freaken word was "hourding"? I know that an 'hour ding' is when the egg timer goes off (I'm really hard boiled) but "hourding" sounds more like something that 'Ladies of the Evening' might do!!!

    Well Natalina,

It's about time that someone woke up to the fact that the Swiss Chise and I are loaded.....w/knowledge! We are always willing to share; be it fact, fiction, or outright fabrications. There is no subject that we are unable to comment brilliantly upon because we just know stuff.....if it's something we never heard of.....we're good at faking it!

OK.....Lets get serious here, I think the word 'Hourding' actually means 'Hoarding' which is the act of Hoarding....so if you Hoard stuff then you have hoarded it in the sense of stuff being stacked up and hoarded.....sooooo.....a 'Cuphoard' is a cupboard that you have hoarded stuff in that you have wanted to hoard......
