Looking to buy a high performance gaming laptop I've checked out quite a few only to find that most of them do not have a fingerprint scanner. I would be using that new laptop for financial transactions as well as for gaming, so the convenience of a fingerprint scanner for log-in security to Windows and financial apps is very important to me. Why are so many (if not most) high performance laptops leaving out this important biometric feature?

Also, anyone can boot a linux cd on your pc and take your files. So fingerprint ain't protecting from that. And bios password wont either, because when you reset the CMOS battery and bios resets, allowing cd/usb boot to linux -> stolen files.

So a normal password + encryption is a good way

Not to mention massively reducing your choice of laptop just for a scanner...

Hey Scott, I also found that to be the case, but I do believe you will find that the camera on most of those gaming laptops will support Windows 'Hello' (i.e., facial recognition login)! ;)

My workplace gives out these Kensington VeriMark USB Fingerprint Readers ($39 at Amazon) with all of their laptops, and it works with Windows Hello. I was a little dubious at first, but it works well in my experience... at least for Windows login and the corporate 2FA stuff. I don't know about 3rd-party public Internet sites and the FIDO U2F compatibility.
