    Dear Ashanta,

Incremental and Differential backups are not the same, though they both require a FULL Backup to start with. For example:

December 1st. : FULL backup is performed.

    December 3rd. : Fife 1 is added.

    December 5th. :
Incremental backup is performed, and it will include the File 1 in the backup.
Differential backup is performed, and it will include the File 1 in the backup.

    December 7th. : Fife 2 is added.

    December 10th. :
Incremental backup is performed, and it will include only the File 2 in the backup.
Differential backup is performed, and it will include both the File 1 and File 2 in the backup.

Thus, incremental backup only contains what has changed since the last backup whether it is FULL or Incremental backup. Whereas, Differential backup always backup what is changed from only the FULL backup.

As far as your environment is concerned with Rollback Rx, you should be only taking a FULL backup once a month, or once every two months. Both Incremental and/or Differential backup in your case will mess up things read bad.

I will rely on two imaging programs, one paid but great and cheap and the other one free and great.

For paid one, I will rely on IFW:
    http://www.bitsdujour.com/software/image-for-windows/

BTW, both Brain K and Pandlouk are experts on IFW on this forum.

For free one, I will rely on Macrium Reflect:
    http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx

I paid $100 for Macrium Reflect v4 and within 6 months, they came out with v5 and they wanted $60 more. So, I tried their free version and the main difference is that with paid version they give WinPE and with free version you have to build your own WinPE. For further information on this, see my above post #36.

    Too expensive, and too limited.

    Best regards,

    KOR!

That is a good deal but I think the Special Bundle from TeraByte is even better. It includes BIBM which is my favourite app. I continue to be amazed at what it can do.

    Dear Brain,

You are absolutely correct. I bought them separately and wound up paying more like that. IFW only is $33, where the complete bundle is $50, which is $17 more. An excellent buy:

    Hi KOR,

First of all, All is more and more clear, thanks KOR !

I suppose the Differential backup performed on 10th will overwrite the one created on 5th.

How much space is required to execute a full back up, for ie, 80 Gb with IFW/Macrium Reflect ? How much will be the image file for 80 Gb ? I have no idea, thanks !

    Hi Ashnata,

    Very true about Differential backup.

On a 80GB hard disk, with let say the empty space is 30GB, the used space then would be 50GB. Therefore, a regular image of 50GB will result in about 25GB (half). A RAW (all sectors) image will be half of 80GB, about 40GB.

    Best regards,

    KOR!

    Hi again,

    One more question :

About "Update baseline", is it the result of all previous Snapshots + Baseline or Update Baseline will automatically save all current datas as I didn't have no snapshots ?

In my case, if I "Update baseline", doest it take on account also all datas that were modified on today, even if I've not yet taken any snapshots on today ?

    Thanks in advance !

    Hi Ashanta,

It will take everything into account, basically it will create a new snapshot and use it as a baseline snapshot. It is like uninstalling RB Rx to a new snapshot and reinstalling RB Rx.

BTW, what is your operating system on your computer?

    Best regards,

    KOR!

P.S. The best thing is to do is to take an automatic snapshot everyday on first boot of the day. You can do this in "Schedule Tasks". And, then any extra snapshots as and when required.

    Ashanta,

Not necessarily. It's your choice. You can keep the lot if you like. It is a good idea to have multiple generations of backups.

    Hi KOR,

My OS is Vista Business 32 bits

So "Update Baseline", is like a new baseline at the current day.

The max snapshots supported by Rollback Rx, is it 10 Snaps ?

    Thanks Brian !

No, you can certainly have more than 10, I have on occasion had over 30 but usually reduce to the last 6 boot snaps at the end of the days computing before turning the PC off. What the theoretical maximum of snap is I have no idea but it has to do with the total size of all of the existing snaps and the size of the space reserved by Rx for snaps (which may, I believe, be modified by the user to a larger or smaller sizes).

BTW I have my schedule set to take a locked snapshot at each boot and to also take 1 snap per hour on the hour. There have been times where I have had the PC on for in excess of 24 hours and so I would have accumulated some 30 snaps between the hourly and the locked boot snaps. If the PC is running fine at days end I will delete all unlocked hourly snaps (except the current snap of course) as well as the oldest boot snap (from 7 days ago), this of course will leave me with 6 snaps plus the baseline.

    Thanks Brian,

Why we couldn't use an external defrag like puran defrag or Auslogics Disk Defrag with Rollback Rx ?

Who can make a comparative features Rollback Rx v Keriver 1-Click Restore (paid version) ?

    Thanks in advance !

Hummmm, just looked through the above linked to googel search and there does not seem to be a comparison which is a bit strange. Above it was suggested that they are the same program, I suspect thats not the case or nobody would be using Rx given the free or $19 Pro version of 1-click. Can anyone provide some clarity on this? should be interesting if someone can.

    Hi Barry,

Mr. Keriver is the programmer for Drive Cloner Rx, and he sells the same thing on his site as Keriver Image for $30 USD. 1-Clk Restore is a baby brother of Drive Cloner Rx and Keriver Image, and is a imaging program and sells for $20 USD

    http://keriver.com/

For WildersSecurity members, Mr. Keriver gives a 40% discount, and he had a 50% discount while back on this forum. So, I bought 1-Clk Restore for $10 USD. He also allows for his programs to be used and activated on as many computers in your household. You just have to PM or send him an email and inform him with your license number and numbers of computers in your home.

Surprisingly, HDS sells 1-Clk Restore for $300 USD and calls it, RollBack Rx Server Edition":

I have been following this thread (and related threads )with interest, but I am a little confused. Would the 1-Clk Restore not be akin to the DriveClonerRX, or another imaging program, more than the server? It just appears 1-Click Restore is an image and restoration program, not entirely dissimilar from his Image Pro program (minus the 1-Click option), which is related to the DriveCloner RX HDS sells.

As I understand it, the imaging programs are rebranded, but otherwise identical. Same tech, same programmer(s).

    RollbackRX is another animal.

Agreed. 1-Clk Restore is a baby of Keriver Image and Drive Cloner Rx, and is an imaging program.

But HDS re-brands 1-Clk Restore as "RollBack Rx Server Edition" and sells it for $300 USD. Thus, the confusion.

And yes, Rollback Rx is another animal.

    Best regards,

    KOR!

    Hi KOR,

Could you make a comparative features Rollback Rx (not RB Rx Server Edition) v Keriver 1-Click Restore (paid version) ?

I don't care about the price, but only as far as concerned, technical features.

Does it makes sens to run Optimizer programs and Checking Disk - chkdsk comand with Rollback Rx ??

    Thanks in advance !

    Hi Ashanta,

They are not same things so one cannot compare them. 1-Clk Restore is an imaging program like IFW and DS.

Yes, and I really don't understand why this confusion keeps coming back (not talking about Ashanta specifically here) as it is always replied the same !

The confusion, in my case, is coming from Keriver website and probably, my basic english. On their website, it's said that this program can take snapshots too. On the screenshots, you can see also 'Baseline snapshot' with a few similar features :

    1. Ability to recover files from snapshots.

    2. Ability to schedule task of creating snapshot.

    3. Snapshot management, including create, lock, unlock, delete.

    4. Ability to verify the integrity of the snapshots.

    5. Provides a detailed event log

    6. Ability to change the storage drive for the snapshots.

I know thanks to KOR, this is an image backup program.

By the way, one of my posted question was skipped :

Does it makes sens to run Optimizer programs and Checking Disk - chkdsk comand with Rollback Rx ??

    Dear Ashanta,

    Chkdsk Command, YES.

Optimizer Programs, No it doesn't. Remember, I called Rollback Rx Past, Present and Future. Let us say that you have baseline and snapshots numbers 1 to 9. Then you Optimize and then take snapshot number 10.

Now for some reason you have to go back to snapshot number 8. The Optimize doesn't do you any good as it is now sitting in Future in snapshot number 10.

Therefore, it is important to periodically uninstall Rollback Rx, run Optimize Programs, Image your System Drive and then reinstall Rollback Rx.

    Best regards,

    KOR!

Another way to look at it that the baseline and each snapshot resides in its own fences (circles). And, when you Optimize you mess up these fences (circles).

    Best regards,
