there's a bug in the ip blocklist mechanism!, maybe related to unicode conversion?

when importing old blocklists (#BLOCKPOST V2), the configuration file (configuration.conf) grows with every change of the settings. a workaround is to remove the comments (marked by #) before importing the list.

the blocklist is saved in outpost's configuration file, which (of course) is compiled and overwritten after every change of the settings. this leads to a sluggish behaviour when a big blocklist is used.

So what is the current opinion of this product? I bought a lifetime license when they were available but soon after I installed a copy on my 64 bit Vista machine (at that time) I had to restore from a backup as it froze and would not boot anymore. It had been great on XP. What little testing I have done with Windows 7 and Office 2010 the Antispam froze Outlook though I see they claim to have fixed that. I want to like OSS but am afraid to put in on my machine. :doubt:

I've had an on off relationship with Outpost. I too dropped it when I moved to 64 bit (Win 7 though) as the HIPS functionality was poor but it's much better now and I've been back using it recently (7.5.1) and really liking it. I think it is the best firewall/HIPS combo for 64 bit now having tried out most of the competition recently. A little heavy in the initial period while it learns your system but light as a feather thereafter. This RC running really nice for me with SBIE and AppGaurd. I don't use the Anti-malware, Anti-Spam or Web content filter though - just FW & HIPS.

    Cheers

Site reads latest RC should be installed after removing other versions. So not installing over another version is what they seem to be recommending.....anyone?

I did as they recommended but exported settings on 7.5.1 and imported into 7.5.2 with no issues. One or two pop-ups since but for new protection capabilities rather than 'forgetting' anything. However 1 or 2 in the Agnitum forums have done an 'over the top' with no reported issues.

    Cheers

Seven months of work, and Outpost x64 still does not pass the DNS test, OLE and direct access to the registry. These are quite important issues.

What version of these tests are you using. Is it CLT? Outpost passes all these for me on 64 bit.

    Cheers

Installed today with no problems, working smoothly.
Just to note, I'm pretty sure the updates mentioned above do not apply to the Free version of the Outpost security suite, I hope I am wrong but I contacted Agnitum on twitter last week and they said they had no intentions of applying the future 7.5.2 updates to the free version of their suite. Like I said I hope I am wrong.

I have to say the previous version was a pain here on startup, so I had to use the antepenultimate one for eight months. However, everything is back to normal with this one, which works perfectly. I have been using OFP since 2006, and I just love it.
