Outbound filtering/blocking: neccessary or not ??

Hhmm: does this apply to desktop systems:
There is a lot of discussion re 'leak tests' and outbound access, RSnake has a POV:

Is this just for servers/web hosts ??

This is just a discussion point: i'm interested in opinions..

Hello,
Outbound can be important, but the security does not begin or end with it. The exploits, worms, problems etc - begin with the user. And if you can't control your users, outbound is only a fraction of the problem.

For my purposes, absolutely and have been doing so for years. The exception, however, is when using Linux.
