    Good day,

I am trying to deploy NOD32 Antivirus through the use of Group Policy.
So far, I am having little success.

I am aware of the other method of pushing installers through the use of RAC. For my purposes where I have 2 sites, this complicates and confuses things and really is not the preferred method of delivery in my opinion.

First off, and I am by no means flaming but merely expressing my frustration, would like to say that the documentation is really limited and when followed has misleading, incorrect step-by-step instructions ( I can elaborate if necessary).
    Only GPO related documentation found:
    http://download.eset.com/manuals/eset_era_4_userguide_enu.pdf

    What I've done:
    1. "integrated" xml file with my re-defined preferences into the latest msi of nod32 antivirus for business. (using Package Configuration Editor, which confuses me every time I use it)
    2. placed the modified msi AND the cfg.xml into a shared folder
    3. created a GPO, added above msi under "User Configuration -> Software setting -> Software installation"

    Package is not getting delivered.
I'd like to mention that when I add the MSI package in step 3, in the event viewer i receive this:

    Event ID: 119
Software Installation encountered an unexpected error while reading from the MSI file \\server\Software\NOD32\eavbe_nt64_enu.4.2.76.0.msi. The error was not serious enough to justify halting the operation. The following error was encountered: The operation completed successfully.

What I've tried with no success:
    1. Adding Software package though "Computer Configuration" as opposed to "User Configuration", which in all honesty makes more sense to me. However, User Configuration was in the official nod32 manual.
    2. using a default msi without modifications

Aside from the above, I understand there 2 architecture msi, 64 and 32 bit versions.
If I get this GPO working, Do I have to add two separate "Software packages" to accommodate the 2 architectures? My company has a wild mixture of that. Usually other software packages, which i deploy with no problems, come as a one 32/64 msi which makes the selection automatic depending on the client.

Sorry for the wall of text.
Any help would be super! Thank you!

    Hi there,

I just did another test which seemed to have worked for me. I need to perform further tests on different architecture (64bit)
    What I've done:

    1. Added the default 32bit package of nod32 antivirus 4.2.76.0 in my GPO under "Computer Configuration"
That installed the package for the Windows XP 32bit machine.

Once again as per previous post, How would I get this one GPO to install appropriate package (32,64 bit) for different clients?

    Many thanks!

    Yet another update.

My 64bit Windows 7 was able to receive the GPO package fine as well now.
I am not 100% certain what has changed from last time but I will not complain.

The way I have my GPO now is:

    2 packages under Computer Configuration.
one package is for 32bit (and is set not to be applicable for 64bit)
    the other is 64bit.

I guess my only question left is - is the above the way it should be setup for muti architecture clients?

    Thanks,

If the method that you used is working, you should stick with it, although there are a few other ways, such as creating multiple GPO's that use Security Groups, or WMI filters to deploy the ESET software packages, to the appropriate architecture.

Here is some additional information regarding how to deploy via GPO:

How do I install ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus using Group Policy?
