My IE11 patch from yesterday is in a 50 mb folder in the sub folder along with 2 other files about 50 mb each from about 6 years ago. The total is only about 150 mb so not in a hurry to delete it now. So this is where the corrupted MS updates are found.

Yes, the download folder is often referred to as the windows update cache. It should be small, whereas the Software Distribution folder itself can get quite large. Deleting the entire folder is only recommended if you are facing daunting Windows Update issues, like Windows Update not working, Windows Updates fail to install, failure configuring Windows updates, Windows Update stuck downloading updates, or the message: we couldn’t complete the updates, Windows keeps installing the same update and so on.

I would like to carry over a post by @Stupendous Man to this thread.
    This post.

    It is about:
    October 3, 2019—KB4524157 (Monthly Rollup)
Applies to: Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4524157/windows-7-update-kb4524157

    Quotes from there:
    OK, so far the quotes.

I wonder what the situation is for those who don't use Monthly Rollups.
I don't see something similar for those who want to use Security Only updates.

MS is saying that it is an important update.

What I do see is that there is another Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer:
    KB4524135
Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer: October 3, 2019
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4524135/cumulative-security-update-for-internet-explorer
    https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4524135

Somehow I tend to think that this will also offer the "patch". But I'm not 100% sure.

Anyways, on my Win 7 64-bit:
    - I had already installed 2019-09 Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 for x64-based systems (KB4522007) as previously posted here.
    - I have now manually installed (from the MS Catalog) KB4524135

I assume the security reference addresses IE only in the rollup up. The printer issue is not a security issue (that's a non-critical but important fix).

I see you have the KB4522007 (manual install) - it addresses the IE issue and no indication that it has been superseded (**).

** The real problem is inadequate documentation. MS uses an AI engine for bug hunting but not for the follow up documentation. When the janitor is free, he/she will eventually get around to it.

    Thanks emmjay !!

If I understand you right, you are confirming what I was thinking. (Correct me please if I'm wrong).

I noticed that the KB4522007 article was updated. Date is now too 3 Oct 2019 just like the KB4524135 article.
Whether KB4524135 superseded KB4522007, I don't know. Maybe not. But nevertheless I installed KB4524135 after having previously installed KB4522007. As far as I can tell: no problems.

I fully agree with you about the inadequate documentation, most definitely!

Now all the patches in the catalog are dated Oct 4. Metadata updates, maybe!
My windows update queue was flushed overnight. Only the 9/24 RU is listed. What does yours show?

    Hi,

    I'm not getting offered
October 3, 2019—KB4524157 (Monthly Rollup). That article is now dated 4 Oct 2019.

    I am getting offered
September 10, 2019—KB4516065 (Monthly Rollup). That article is now dated 4 Oct 2019.

Now I just have the RU previews. Nothing in the important queue at all. The MS catalog still shows KB4524157 available. I thought at first that this may be a windows agent issue. I did an internet search and there are several different scenarios being discussed on many support forums, though I did not find an official MS announcement on any of their websites. My corporate IT friends have no info to share with me. Some users report that they have KB452157 but it us unchecked and others like you have KB4516065 and I have zero. This gives the impression that the windows distribution servers have mixed payloads (but why?).
My guess: a decision got made on Oct 3 that got reversed on Oct 4. Doing that on a Friday night going into a weekend is not a good thing.

    Edit:
Why all the last minute changes over the past few days ...

Patch levels were different for IE depending what patch was offered. The Windows 7 rollup update KB4524157 has IE patch level 11.0.9600.19503, while the cumulative IE update KB4524135 has patch level 11.0.9600.19504, which was an error in the metafiles . KB4519974 cumulative update is internally listed as "Update Version: 11.0.150.

O.K. Yesterday I hid KB4524157 and soon after KB4516065 along with KB3101722 arrived as important to be installed of which I hid both until further review. Today I checked back into the hidden files and notice that KB4516065 is not longer there and no further notification came as to re install. Everything is on hold to see what happens on Tuesday. This is really getting ridiculous. Personally I will be glad when 2020 arrives so I don't have to put up with this B.S any longer... Install, uninstall, hide, reinstall etc. etc.. and the insanity continues. :thumbd:

    Windows 7
    Before installing this update
    Prerequisite
    :

You must install the updates listed below and restart your device before installing the latest Rollup. Installing these updates improves the reliability of the update process and mitigates potential issues while installing the Rollup.
    1. The March 12, 2019 servicing stack update (SSU) (KB4490628). If you are using Windows Update, this SSU will be offered to you automatically. To get the standalone package for this SSU, search for it in the Microsoft Update Catalog.
    2. The latest SHA-2 update (KB4474419) released October 8, 2019. If you are using Windows Update, the latest SHA-2 update will be offered to you automatically. For more information on SHA-2 updates, see 2019 SHA-2 Code Signing Support requirement for Windows and WSUS.
    3. The latest SSU (KB4516655). If you are using Windows Update, the latest SSU will be offered to you automatically. To get the standalone package for the latest SSU, search for it in the Microsoft Update Catalog.

My post was before I installed the patches from 8 Oct 2019.
I have now installed the patches from 8 Oct 2019.
Among them : 2019-10 Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 for x64-based systems (KB4519974)

    About IE11 shows now indeed:

I think this is the KB that failed to install 3 times on September 23, 2019. I don't know what kb it was because i have wupd set to not check for updates, but some kb downloaded and tried to install itself and failed 3 times. All is says is that it is a update for IE11 for Win7 when i look in installed updates. This update has not shown up again unless it is in the monthly quality rollup as KB4519976 which also failed to install.

The monthly quality rollup KB4519976 failed to install, so i thought i would just install the Security Only Quality Update for Windows 7 KB4520003. Where can i get a link for this to download and install.

    Hi,
First we need to know whether you are using 32-bit or 64-bit.
Am I right in assuming that you are using Win 7 64-bit?
    If so, then you need:
    https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4520003
2019-10 Security Only Quality Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4520003)
    Code:
    http://download.windowsupdate.com/c/msdownload/update/software/secu/2019/10/windows6.1-kb4520003-x64_8abb11ba896edd5efc66dbfdec40d16773f82398.msu
(see also the links posted by @mood )

    But the question is:
Why can you not install the monthly quality rollup KB4519976 ?
Do you have all the required prerequisites installed? Are you able to install them?

I should be able to install the monthly quality rollup KB4519976, but it fails for some reason. I just installed the security only update msu without a problem. I tried to install the monthly quality rollup msu for Oct but it failed just like it did with win update.

    See also KB4524752
Windows 7 SP1 support notification for Windows 7 Professional
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4524752

That article is giving two reg-keys in case you don't want to see nag-screens.
Well, those reg-keys are already there on my system: I still do have the GWX Control Panel Monitor installed/"active".

    EDIT
For other Windows 7 versions there is this article:
    KB4493132
    Windows 7 SP1 support notification
