New To TDS-3 With Questions

I have Windows XP Home 1.8 Pent 4 512 Ram. I have NOD32 Ver 2 AV and now TDS-3 AT. I also have KAV Lite 4071 as a backup scanner. I am running Execution Protection on TDS. I have it start up with Windows along with NOD .So far great ,no problems. Now the questions. I haven't seen much info on Execution Protection and would like to get more. If I am going to do a scan with NOD should I remove EX. Protection temp? If i'm going to do scan with TDS should I disable AMNO.

I don't know about those other programs, but you never have to uninstall Exec Prot.

there is not any need to close NOD or TDS for scanning with the other, as they don't bite each other; the only reason could be if you would run out of resources during the scanning process as those are the heaviest for any scanner: the TDS full system scan for instance works multi threaded at a time to use as much space as possible to speed up the scanning process. When i do a full system scan with any scanner i close all unnecessary other programs but for space matters only.

If you scan with NOD and KAV for instance you should close the other temporary to avoid the one scanning the other or getting no results at all, but TDS is different and can safely run on during one of their scans.
Exec protection is no scanner but more a hook, which never gets in the way of any scanner.

 

Execution Protection generally refers to protection against execution of programs, ie when you run them. So having Execution Protection on is needed if you don't scan executables before running them. Execution Protection can also come in handy with some things that malware do like scheduling of running programs.

Some worms and trojans for instance schedule their code to run after connecting to your machine and dropping a file. In this case execution protection would block the file from running if the program detected it as malicious.

I would just like to add that I am quite impressed with TDS-3. One day I would like to be able to learn how to use all of it. Until then I'm happy.
