It's not worth putting the files on a USB thumb drive and using that instead of floppies? Cheaper and less hassle....

in one single stick, 512Mb USB flash can hold as much data as 370 floppies.

While thumb drives could be an option, I would rather buy the floppy drive. I have at least 200 floppys and I just do not want to go to the trouble.

Thanks for the suggestion. Thumb drives would be a lot easier to store, and carry. I just might put some on one that I would use when travelling.

    Bubba,
No, I haven't considered that. One reason is that I figured that there would not be a slot to install it. My laptop is a Toshiba with a 14 inch screen.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

Not knowing the model # I can't say. All the laptops we have had at work at least back 10 years or so we could always temporarily take out the battery, cd rom, floppy, hard drive etc and replace it with another piece of hardware. To me it might be worth your while to look into it if your model has the ability to swap hardware items. I would not think it would cost anything near what I just paid for an extra hard drive for my fairly new Dell which was $100.00. Just guessing but I would think a floppy would be way under that in price.

Just another option to go along with your thoughts of an external floppy drive.

    Hi Bubba,
I am not knowledgeable enough to attempt to install an internal drive, and the cost of having it done would make it much more expensive than an external drive.

I should be able to find one for 25 bucks or so.
