I used to love Firefox for many years. But for me, I still find it slower compared to Chromium based browsers. I only use a few extensions, so it is not as if I am customising it a lot from default. I switch between Chrome and of late the new Edge. I have tried them all, Vivaldi, Brave, etc. but keep coming back to Chromium based browsers. I don't like the Firefox UI anymore either. Feels like a kids toy. As for privacy between Firefox and Chrome, Chrome is definitely worse. However, Firefox is not as private as you may think though anymore. It phones home just like a lot of other browsers.
Rasheed, the second and last ones are not correct. You can close tabs with single click - or open new ones with double-click. Mrk
and you have a bullet proof evidence? which extension working? which antivirus? special webpages slowing down? in direct comparison i dont have the method to measure my personal timer which one is starting up faster, at least we talk about miliseconds? for the options, there are but some were under the hood (where chromium/chrome has nothing) https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/mozilla-firefox.388154/page-30#post-2868545 dont mind on Rasheed, he is still complaining but absolute wrong as you can see a lot of assumption without knowing or any research. if vivaldi has some actions by default its using a the pre-defined setting in chromium or they implemented some code of extension. not satisfied with firefox? UNINSTALL and stop complaining.
Unfortunately there are not a lot of other browsers left. Four at best, coming to my mind. I'd rather call browsers relying on the same code base forks.
thank you, i know about. i dont say that firefox establish no connections on startup but it performs a lookup for its lists, certs and more. the major problem behind is - we had that discussion some days ago - that all those reverse ip-lookups wont discover the real purpose. eg 93.184.220.29 thats in a verizon server farm - wtf verizon why? but when i tell you that on the IP symantec offers its ocsp... which is used in firefox it makes sense https://knowledge.digicert.com/generalinformation/INFO4896.html same for amazonaws/akamai/cloudfront for mozilla pages spread over the cdn .
During my tests OCSP was disabled as anything else that could make one from the user unsolicited outbound connection. As for certs there is no reasonable reason to retrieve them every time one starts the browser (5x during 5 browser starts within 5 minutes). Apart from this there are load (this term is an understatement) of unsolicited outbound connections made by Firefox. BTW, IceCat (a Firefox fork) behaves as it should - no unsolicited outbound connections if configured accordingly. I've tested the unofficial custom portable build 68.2.0 ESR for Windows.
That's the whole point, these features need to be standard, no need to install extensions that are possible security risks. And you're wrong, Vivaldi has implemented these things without the help of any extensions or Chromium feature, seems like you didn't do any research LOL. Well I think it is. These are crucial features to me. Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Edge and Brave are all crap.
Should have explained it better. In Vivaldi you can bookmark all tabs, but sometimes you have 50 tabs open but you might want to only bookmark 20 of them. You can simply select those tabs with the shift key. I'm afraid that I'm correct. You can't double click to close tabs, I do not want to use the close button.
I wonder what took Mozilla so long to upgrade the Gecko browser engine. And what took them so long to improve security with the sandbox and multi-process architecture. They could have done this years ago, but they were too busy with doing nothing. And now FF is just as barebones as Chrome, what a joke.
Well I just now, for testing purposes to simulate what you describe above, selected four out of six tabs using the shift key and was able to bookmark them in Firefox.
it works also in sandboxie, i would wonder why not. about appearence - dont know https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1458007 who cares about old firefox versions.
Firefox 70 sometimes doesn't block social media trackers despite it says it is blocked. It allows some ad cookies despite i block all cookies. It is terrible and not reliable.
How do you have Enhanced Tracking Protection set up? EDIT: another experiment: I set to block all cookies, then opened up numerous websites known to set cookies, and no cookies were set under Manage Data. Some websites also broke, as expected. Do you have any examples of sites that are setting cookies?
I use custom mode level2 blocking list. It randomly stops working. There is no particular site to test it.
i'm not a sbie user but this might help. https://www.ghacks.net/2018/12/14/how-to-bookmark-multiple-tabs-in-firefox-64/
https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/mozilla-firefox.388154/page-31#post-2870956 Some wrote not available in firefox 63 which is true, but we are currently v68esr or v70 (v71 to come these days) and there is possible. and i tested it in sandboxie #769 and working. you'd better ignore his old and vulnerable software questions.
