I don't have anything to hide or anyone to block and it gave me some problems initially so i just disable it now.
Ive ditched it again for now lol. Seemed to be a battery hog on my device, so i am back to Lookout. Waiting to hear about future updates to avast!
Really? It barely uses battery according to Android built in battery feature. (That's taking into account that i have it set to daily updates + highest realtime protection settings . . . Extended)
It was showing up in the normal Android battery stats daily taking up anywhere between 14-23% of battery. Strange.
14% - 23%? Wow thats a lot, in my cellphone it usually uses around 1% or even less. The most i have seen it use is around 5% and that's because i keep launching the program to update it manually just for fun etc.
I haven't really looked much into Android security but for the fun of it, installed Avast and seemed OK in terms of performance.
As i've said earlier, the main reason i run an AV is for the Anti Theft features . . . the AV for me is just a bonus. (I know there are standalone apps that comes with Anti Theft features and are free but i still wanted to try something else)
You know what guys, i ditched Kaspersky Mobile Security . . . I was comparing features between Avast! and Kaspersky Mobile Security and it seems like Avast! is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY ahead of Kaspersky Mobile Security and is a lot more stable compared to Kaspersky. Also i just found out that the Kaspersky Mobile Security being sold in the Play Store is an older version with no support from Kaspersky. I order to get the latest version and updates you have to purchase the yearly license from Kaspersky website. The $4.95 version from the Play Store is a lifetime license but you only get an older version that is not as frequently updated as the full yearly license. Avast! is really really good, specially the remote commands available, anti theft features and what i like the most, run it SU and be able to lock down your phone . . . AMAZING. I'll keep using Avast! until i find something better . . . which i doubt, if they had a paid version for a reasonable price they can count me in as a buyer.
I am running Comodo Mobile Security on Samsung S Duos. Light, effective & easy to use & free. It has usual features, AV, AntiTheft, Backup, etc... But I like it also checks for security services like Unknown Sources, USB Debugging, etc... are enabled or disabled.
Yeah I am sorry that I paid money for it. Still using Lookout. Will come back to Avast if/when my suggestions are implemented.
Ha ha! Not from a privacy perspective. I have nothing to hide. But from a security standpoint, I mean why linux kernel opens a port and advertised its IP address. Then a malicious hacker who has been scanning for vulnerable devices could perhaps gain access and plant a trojan or make my phone part of a botnet. Just curious, if this is a default behaviour for android's geolocation services, etc. If it's not, my cheap chinese smartphone could possibly be bugged in the first place?
I have Avast! but im lazy to enable the firewall. Maybe when i have more time i will do it since it requires me to manually configure every app (Even Android OS modules).

But eventually when Internet connection runs smooth, then afterwards, the log is already empty. So, I guess this is not a security risk since those opened ports or communications is transient only. In configuring your firewall easily, you should go to whitelist mode and just whitelist your frequently used internet-facing apps like browsers, emails, youtube, Maps(if you use it), other google services you want, games or basically any apps that requires the internet, etc. I guess if some apps or modules are not functioning properly, just disable the firewall altogether. It's a trial and errror thing. But then again, why bother in the first place?
Avast! Mobile Security . . . the best option if you are looking for anti theft features, has a great firewall (Theres no other major suite with firewall that i know of) and has great AV Protection. (Probably not the best in the tests but it does very good and if you use your cellphone wisely i dont think you will catch any malware). I used to be a Kaspersky user but i discovered that their lifetime license offered in the Google Play Store is an older version.
