Last month, Microsoft posted some workarounds for most common issues. Today, Microsoft released a new patch that fixes most of the installation issues. Asobo Studio has announced that patch 2 for Microsoft Flight Simulator is in its final stages of preparation, and it should be available within the next 10 days. While the studio has not released full patch notes yet, it has released a preview set stating what changes there will be. Asobo has confirmed there will be updates to the aircraft, the aerodynamics, the user interface, and animations among other changes.

The new Microsoft Flight Simulator is the fastest-growing entry in the series, Microsoft says, with over 2 million gamers since its launch four months ago.

“Microsoft Flight Simulator is Microsoft’s longest-running franchise with a history of 38 years, and we are proud to announce that the latest entry is the fastest to grow to over 2 million [gamers],” Microsoft’s Jorg Neumann announced.
Microsoft shared a few other numbers that help explain the game’s success: Gamers have flown over 50 million virtual flights in the game since the launch, racking up over 3.5 billion virtual miles, the equivalent of 19 round trip flights from the earth to the sun. The most popular destination is New York City, and the most popular three airports are JFK, LAX, and Heathrow. And viewers have watched over 9.7 million hours of Flight Simulator gameplay on Twitch.

The team behind Microsoft Flight Simulator has added support for virtual reality headsets.

In a post on Xbox Wire, the head of Microsoft Flight Simulator, Jorg Neumann, wrote that the title now supports a variety of VR hardware, including Windows Mixed Reality headsets, as well as tech from Oculus, Valve and HTC.

“The flight sim community has been a very active and insightful partner in shaping how the team approached VR, and continues to be a critical partner in our continued development as we make further improvements and add new features to the simulation,” Neumann wrote.

I went into the game without any real-world flight knowledge, but the VR experience still felt like a revelation.

I'll admit, Flight Simulator is far from perfect in VR. But when it works, it makes you feel like a truly capable pilot.

Microsoft Flight Simulator launched last year on PC and allows you to fly through a number of locations. However, the last few weeks here in the UK it has been heavily snowing, but when jumping into the game to see the weather effects in real-time, there was no snow unless I manually adjusted the weather settings. However, in a new update, we get to see real-time snow arriving in the game.

In a new official blog post, Asobo Studio developers wish the community a happy new year through both text and also a video in which they thank the community for its support. Asobo Studio also states that it looks forward to working with the community to make Microsoft Flight Simulator to “evolve this into the most accurate sim possible.”

Another video in the post reveals real-time snow is to be available in the game. The video shows numerous clips of planes flying over vast landscapes that are covered in snow, with some areas showing various levels of coverage.

The update is now live and available to download upon booting the game up.

If you have been dreaming of screaming through the virtual skies at March 2.5, that may soon become reality as DC Designs brings their detailed F-15 Eagle model to Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Their model is a faithful reproduction of the tactical combat planes, but are not training certified of course, and are not close to dedicated combat sims. What it does offer however is a unique way to explore the world in great detail not available in less sophisticated simulations.

Nothing has pushed my PC further than Microsoft Flight Simulator.
I’ve been playing a preview build provided by Microsoft on my Series X for a few days, and as with my PC, I think it’s the strongest workout for the hardware so far.

Microsoft Flight Simulator is essentially the same proposition on Xbox as it is on PC, offering players the chance to pilot a variety of aircraft around a beautifully rendered version of our planet.
On the Series X, Flight Simulator runs at 4K resolution and targets 30 frames per second. Overall, I got a more stable experience on the Series X than my own i5 6600K/GTX 1080 rig, which was impressive when I put it together five years ago but somewhat less so now.

Microsoft Flight Simulator is getting its biggest update ever on PC today, thanks to a new patch that delivers significant performance improvements. The game has been notoriously demanding since its launch last year, but the team behind the simulator has been focusing heavily on improving its CPU and memory usage. PC players can now go ahead and download the latest update, and it should improve frame rates across a variety of hardware.

Even flying across areas like New York City sees some impressive improvements, with my machine now managing to hit 80fps average in what’s typically a very demanding part of Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Overall, the game now feels a lot smoother with less random fps drops than before. It should also be a lot more playable on a wider range of hardware as a result.

To launch alongside the World Update 6, Asobo Studio has announced a new series of releases called “Local Legends” which will “frequently collide with World Updates.” These Local Legends will be aircraft that are “famous in the region of the world update, but often are not as well known to a worldwide audience.”

Thanks to the collaboration with the team at Volocopter, the VoloCity air taxi will also be joining Microsoft Flight Simulator’s growing list of available aircraft as the first helicopter sometime this November.
On top of two new aircraft, it was also announced during Xbox’s Gamescom presentation that the famous STIHL National Championship Air Races are coming to Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Xbox has announced that Microsoft Flight Simulator: Game of the Year Edition will launch as a free update on November 18, adding aircraft, airports, air races, and probably more things that have "air" in their name.

Announced on Xbox Wire, the update will be added free for all players – including those who own the game through a Game Pass subscription. THe update adds five new aircraft, eight new airports, as well as extra Discovery Flights and tutorials. The update will also add DX12 support for PC versions.
This update will also include the Reno Air Races expansion, which adds competitive racing to the game for the first time. Announced earlier this year, air races will see multiple high-speed planes added, and allow eight players to recreate the real-life event, which bills itself as the world's fastest motorsport.
