I just received an email from MickeyTheMan's Forum. The email asked me to check my inbox at MTM's forum for a personal message. I did so. The forum message is shown below.

The message is obviously a Phishing expedition, & is obviously a fake, but I do not have time to check out the url it gives, or to contact Mickey to let him know. I hope someone here will do so.

The reason for my lack of time is a serious illness in the family. I am spending most all of my time at the hospital.

    Aloha,
    bellgamin

I have advised someone that frequents MTM to advise of your problem. Thanks for the note.

Interesting events. Is it someone that joined Mickey's forum and then started the phishing expedition?

I've removed few problem new members.

One or few of them were using the private message system to seng messages to other members.

As for the email received it is legit as you get notification of private messages awaiting in your inbox.

Hopefully this will stop. Moderators and admins are aware of the problem and will keep a close eye on this.

Should anyone else receive these private messages in the future, please advise us so that we can take immediate action.

    Thanky you

Caught another new member who registered as BoardAdmin.

I deleted him but not before he had a chance to send yet few of those phony private messages advising to go to this site as their computer was infected by virus.

We will be on the lookout for new members registering at the board.

I also posted a message on the the latest news to make members aware of this

How was that possible, bug/vulnerability in software used?

The person did not create an Admin account... They simply registered an account with the member name "BoardAdmin". There's no bug or vulnerability in that. It was just their name choice.

Correct, I've experienced the same problems at our forum. :doubt:
As a temporary solution we've disabled private messages, until it's resolved.
Quite a lot of spammers registering too, but we stay alert to remove topics as soon as they appear.

A lot of cleaning has been done already, but it's really not easy.
I hope MTM & others will find a way to ban those pests, as do we.
