I have bought a new desktop which arrives next week - it has no OS on it and I plan to install Win10 with which I have zero familiarity (at present I am on 8.1).
    My two basic questions are:
    1. at this moment which Win 10 version would you suggest I install? 1903, 1909 or what?
    2. I would like to manage my updates rather than letting MS manage it. Researching the topic, I have seen many tools and methods on the web. Would anybody with actual experience recommend the best (= easiest + most practical) way to do it?
    thanks

    1. I suggest installing build 1909 as it's generally best to install the current build.
    2. Someone else can probably help you with this, as I always let Windows install all updates.

    1. I agree with Roger_M.
    2. I set my connection to "metered," which usually (but not always!) prevents updates from downloading without permission. Beginning with version 1903, Home users can now pause updates from the settings menu. The default pause is 7 days, which is usually enough time for Microsoft to pull any bad updates.

I agree with Roger. If you have image backups it doesn't matter if you get a bad update.
