Malware Defender

Out of curosity, does anyone still use malware defender? Been on linux for quite some time, have been focusing on that for quite a while, and, lets just say im a bit rusty on the whole security on the windows side...

 

Some good amount still use MD because of its complete HIPS-ness and because it is free. It is quite flexible, but depends on the extent of your knowledge to have a greater control of the system. Nevertheless, the only limitation is 32bit only.

 

Ah, yes, I recall some fuss about HIPS programs and x64. I guess the author of Malware Defender never got around releasing the 64 bit...or, couldn't...

Kind of a bummer, wanted to run this bad boy on my new laptop.

 

You can try Comodo Internet Security, it is pretty nice too

 

Comodo, Online Armor, Outpost and Privatefirewall are all firewalls with good HIPS.

 

I kinda had a "thing" with Malware Defender...but, I guess Comodo might be a go

i have stopped using Malware Defender (Torchsoft) long ago as it showed up some important bugs. development has stopped, some minor issues fixed years ago. i wont say it does not work any more but i have doubt it catches all.

i change hips to nearly nothing - it was boring at least and annoying enough and in some cases some of my decisions cut lot of functionality. i let applications do as they want cause they are legit.

my personal opinion - people investigate too much time into such software instead working. if it happens - it will happens - a proper backup is best way out.

if you want to investigate to HIPS, try Online Armor, best hips ever from my view. its clear and easy, its highly customizable.

I also enjoyed Defensewall, and though the customization isn't really there (its a different kind of hips afterall), i might just make the switch to that.

 

An excellent choice if your on 32-bit.
