I have just installed KCleaner and there was an optional part to the installwhether to accept or decline Relevant Knowledge.

There are no traces of Relevant Knowledge on my computer. o_O

It was not an optional component at the time of my last post here - yesterday.

I have not yet checked whether you changed this or not since, but I will take your (and previous poster's) word for it...

    The install procedure has changed.

However, the 'optional' method used involved a 'Privacy Statement & User License Agreement' that most people would just automatically click to accept like we all generally do.

It was if you read the tiny compact eula you discovered that RK is *serious* spyware.
In any event the eTrust conditions of certification still exclude the method used for that program within KCleaner.
So it is still wrong. Period.

    Re: KCleaner - ATTENTION!!!

    Sorry Kyle.

Having read the RK Eula I believe it to be seriously dangerous spyware and have no intention of ever using software that presents even as an 'option' to install because I know that many users will agree to it without understanding the full implications of it.

I also have to say I will always seek alternative programs to any of yours - even the ones without RK bundled - so long as even one of them includes RK, optional or not.

Kyle is it possible for you to have another program semi bundled with the software with a box that can unticked during install? such as googletoolbar or something even less spyish?

Oh yes, it is possible to use the less spyish thingie. It all revolves around the money... offered...
I wouldn't be surprised if it was RelevantKnowledge's demand that their software is to be silently installed - without the possibility to omit it.
I don't want to believe that it was Kyle's idea.

    Hi Kyle

It's obvious you're taking some flack over this move so consider this. Examine your options pls. It would be a shame both for former delighted users of your creation KCleaner and for reputation sake to ignore these potent concerns that would surely turn away interest in this and the other products offered as well.

Everyone deserves the chance to make amends and every one us are not perfect. With that said hopefully matters will remedy in the right light again soon and everyone can put this to rest and move ahead.

I understand the need to feed a mouth and all, but IMHO if your software is truly good, then you don't need this sort of thing. If it is only OK, then you do, just like a thousand other apps out there. If you develop a really great tool, and you would like to get paid, you should just keep beta testing it on the likes here, and then offer the final version as a paid product, or crippleware.

The feeling it gives me is that while it may be a nice program, if I can't recommend it to someone else without saying 'oh yeah, make SURE you opt out of the extra software it installs', then I won't use it myself. To me all the programs that were/are really great are free or pay, no baggage included. And those in the know will dig up old versions just to keep from using newer versions that are now 'corrupt' with baggage. A perfect example of this is daemon tools. It still is a great tool, but many use older versions without the 'extras'. But, in the software market, how many make a product that actually sells? I bet only a handful make it to that point. And the tool needs to be really unique.

If your target is the masses, who install lot's of stuff with extra baggage such as this, then great. Mouths need to be fed after all.

    Sul.

I'm currently in discussion with a major serious toolbar provider to replace RK inside my bundles.
I'll keep you notified if we manange to find an agreement.

Btw : Zip and Rar package DO NOT include RK in any way.

Btw, i'd like to add something which is truly important to me : I DO APOLOGIZE if the method shocked my users. I've spent too much energy making good software to accept having my reputation spoiled.

I promise to do my best either to find a better partner or to find a more appropriate way to work with RK.

It seems that RK is being "accepted" by the A/V community : Both Avast and Antivir removed RK from their databases.

Anyway, i'll improve my install procedure in order to make the "choice" (not to install optional RK) more explicit

IMO RelevantKnowledge have to be classified clearly as Spyware.

To me it is hard to understand the motivation of Avast and Antivir to classify RK as harmless to the user. By doing that, they will put themselves in a "suspicious spotlight". I would never rely on such doubtful A/V's. However, I can't confirm your statement so will let it be for what it is.

Your statement that RK is being "accepted" by the A/V community is deceitful, you are trying to talk "good" what is factual wrong. Any serious A/V vendor will not remove RK from the database for reasons mentioned before.

Finally: I can assure you that RK within the security community is rated as badware. Badware have to be combatted and terminated. In the opinion of security experts RK is a piece of crap. I join that opinion.

    Regards,

    Smokey

    +1 :thumb:
    I downloaded the .exe file.
RK still behaves as it used to be...(=Badware).
Even if all AV scanners tell me that RK is "harmless",
I know, first-hand, that it is not!
I won't bother to upload images proving my writings (not for a second time).

kyle, you will see already how badware is absolutely not tolerated as in 0 tolerance and is a very quick way to smother any potential good efforts you might have expcted on your part.

I honestly suggest that you make amends as quick as possible to ever regain trust for any of your work again, because rightly so users here are super swift at dismissing entirely anything that gives even the near appearance of diverting from reliability toward untoward DECEPTIVE actions.

^^^ Unfortunately I will NEVER trust this software again, regardless of what changes the author makes from this point on. The "trust factor" was compromised and it was done so in a sneaky/deceptive manner unknown to it's customers and potential customers.

Even having this crapware bundled as an OPTION to the user destroys any and all credibility for this software. :thumbd:

You know what they say about "First Impressions"........

Hello, Kyle. I just checked your site, but the last version of K Cleaner pre-dates your comment about making things more explicit in the next version.

I'll keep checking the site, but please keep us updated here as well. Thanks.
