Thanks Bill, I think I'll just check that out.

    WARNING! Will Rogers, WARNING!
I went to install KAV, and during the install process a warning box poped up and said that I had DrWeb installed, and I should uninstall it before installing KAV. Well I have DrWeb running as resident protection and I wanted to install KAV, just as a scanner.
There was an option to stop and uninstall DrWeb or proceed. I proceeded and next during the install I had an option to choose normal protection, medium or heavy duty. I left the default and finished the install.
Well, when I rebooted, it got to loading Windows and hung. Tried again, got the same hang up.
I had to boot in safe mode and uninstall KAV.
So, a word to the wise. This is a beta and if you want to install it, uninstall any other AV you may have, or at least, do not have any resident protection running. The KAV install is going to start up with resident protection whether you want it or not.
I imagine you can kill resident protection in KAV after you get it booted up and then have another run resident, but I'm not ready to try again, just yet.
I'm interested in more feedback on this. I would dearly love to have it as a backup scanner.

Downloaded KAV beta last night and I remembered to turn AVG off. I had a few problems that seem to have ironed themselves out. As a safeguard, I removed AVG from my system after downloading KAV.

First, after downloading and rebooting, I tried a scan. KAV seems to use a LOT of resources. During the scan, nothing else wanted to work, and I have 384MB of RAM. Next, after a half hour, I checked the progress and it had scanned 2 files, at which point I gave up and shut down.

This morning, I ran it again and it ambled through the entire scan in about 34 minutes, approx 30000 files, roughly 10 minutes slower than AVG. I had the same situation as last night concerning doing any other work while it was running. It ate nearly all resources. As far as stability, it's too soon to tell.

I like the simplicity and can live without bells and whistles as long as the program does the job it's supposed to.

    Chuck

Well, its a beta, so give them some feedback. Let them know its a resource hog and maybe they will fix it.
At least you should have good reliable protection.
Don't forget to update every day. :)

Hello everyone , this is my first posting and if it's in the wrong place, forgive me.
I've downloaded and installed Kav Lite , The install went smoothly and i've had no problems so far other than I can't seem to get into the help programs. Maybe my firewall o_O
I had DrWEB before but I uninstalled it completly before installing Kav . Like I said no problems there.
After installation it ran a complete scan and it took only 10 or 12 mins to process 40+ thousand files , not bad .
I'm very new to this stuff but it seems like a good program to me so far . If I encounter any problems I'll let you know.

Thanks for all the great info .
    Frank

Hi Paul , thanks for the welcome.
In answer to your question , no I didn't get any error messages but I must apologise to Chuck , I ran another scan and timed it , it took exactly 26 mins to scan 48 thousand files .
    Sorry Chuck.

    Regards
    Frank

I uninstalled KAV BETA LITE and downloaded it again after it began locking up my computer. The new install went seamlessly and its performing nicely now. I think the first install was a bad one.

I'm still not matching your speed grasshopper, but all computers are different. I'm much happier with this current installation. If it stays as stable for another few days, it'll be time to start playing to see what it's made of and what recommends I can make.

No, grasshopper, still can't access help. I get the help screen and sections, but they won't open when I click on them. I'm thinking help isn't included.
