The only way I see free Ad Muncher making it, is if it is driven by donations.

If he doesn't ask for donations, to keep the project alive, I see it going down hill once again.

Even after reading the announcement, I just have this weird feeling that it's just not his passion anymore and that it won't be kept up to snuff after awhile.

I don't know, just my opinion

I have mixed feelings about this, it wont be easy to Ad Muncher make a comeback.

After all we now have some strong competition ...

Its a big promo, admuncher 4 is a non seller anyway, so offer it free regardless. Perhaps bombard with constant pop-ups about V5 and its superior characteristics...Making up for a lot of lost ground and a sales promotion..I don't believe its goodwill....That's how I see it.

My thoughts exactly, hope it wont be the case.

This sounded a little hypocritical, I dont need to explain why:

Yeah reputation damage was huge. Especially that AdMuncher requires a huge investment of $100 to get a lifetime license.

    Your wrong on both counts.

Ad Muncher is 50% every time around Christmas.

Thanks for the explanation. We will see which approach (Adguard or Ad Muncher) in iOS filtering proves to be better but having been used the both applications (Ad Muncher formerly) I feel Adguard has better chances.

Nice article. Sensitive natures might start to cry and regret him because he will have to sell everything he has in order to offer and maintain Ad Muncher free. ... Pardon but it's pretty bullshit. I see only reason he is offering Ad Muncher free because he finally realized and admitted that Ad Muncher's reputation suffered terribly during past years and if he will want to pull back users who meanwhile departed for other ad blocking solutions and lure new users, he will have to offer Ad Muncher free.

it had absolutely nothing to do with any so called damage to our reputation.

Our userbase has always been overwhelmingly supportive of us and this hasn't changed significantly at all, regardless what you might believe personally or what anyone else here or on other forums may claim.

Then he must have another source of income that enables him to run Ad Muncher free, pay three employees and usual expenses etc. He even rejects donations. Moving to much higher capacity hosting, and removing all the anti-piracy rubbish cannot generate such savings to suddenly offer Ad Muncher for free. No problem with this and I wish him all the best but he shouldn't play with users' emotions.
It was too much and completely needless.

Well, you should re-read all those forums, including yours. Anyway I'm not surprised that we don't share the same view.

he's not playing with emotions. he's exposing a part of himself and sharing his feelings. that's a completely legitimate thing to do.

OK, I co-manage a company and I tell you that should our employee expose such a part of himself and share such his feelings towards our clients, I'd fired him. It's unprofessional to bother clients with personal feelings. It has no room in business.

    you are nuts.

you wouldn't believe the outpouring of support and kind words our inbox has been flooded with.

your position is an outlier one. it is far from the norm.

I really like V4, going on the work that Murray and his team are doing I am sure V5 will be amazing. I personally like the way Ad Muncher just works across browsers without the need to install other ad block extensions. Credit to Murray for being open, sharing his thoughts/feelings.

i'll have to agree that this sounds a bit dramatic.

I mean, why on earth would someone sell almost everything they own.

I could understand selling almost everything you own, if your family members life is at stake and needs a heart transplant, but come on, why would he jeopardize his future over something that has already got a bad reputation?

As a successful human being, why would you set yourself up like that, it's just not a logical thing to do.

Now, I must say that Ad Muncher has the potential to be saved, if he just accepts donations and is 100% honest with his customers.
