I did like SAS at one time where I had it installed on every computer in my home for on-demand scanning. But I have no use for a glorified cookie scanner and out it went.

I am not going join the trash talk SAS so I voted its better then no active protection and by that I mean no protection at all.Keeping in mind at one time SAS was a well regarded application.

Don't know why but when I tried to use SAS as on-demand it still used the same amount of ram as it would have if used in realtime - 210+ MB. It catches tiny amount of malware if any. All it does is seat around and catch cookies- even that needs to be done by on-demand scanning. I think SAS deserves trash talking.

Although I own a License, I've used SAS only as and on-Demand Scanner.

SAS is not supposed to be used as an real time defense.its a on demand scanner.
People need to remember this before ripping the program into bits.Lots of people speak highly of MBAM and im one of them, but its only effective as a standalone scanner and not for realtime protection.
So before everyone rips this program up lets just remember what its purpose and use are.

The SAS web site advertises the Pro edition as having real time protection:
I believe most people realize the free version is an on demand scanner. And most people realize the paid version is supposed to offer real time protection. Although even the real time protection should be considered another line of defense and should be used in addition to a more comprehensive program (such as antivirus, sandboxie, etc), I believe many of the SAS critics claim that the real time protection often does not meet the minimum capabilities of being viable, even as another layer of protection.

I have to disagree. I use MBAM real time and it catches malware on web sites on the run for me.:)

And yet SuperAntispyware or Support.com or whoever is charging yearly fees for realtime protection that's not supposed to be used. That makes the them.....well at least in your opinion.
Only in case of MBAM, realtime protection is as effective as it's on-demand scanner if not more.

Dont get me wrong i absolutely love malwarebytes and install it on every computer i have. Its primary use is that of a standalone scanner and it does this very well.
SAS is the same in my opinion the real time protection has never been taken seriously.
Yeah it is still a good program for what it does and the free version should satisfy most peoples need.
Most malware testers and reviewers use MBAM and SAS as after test scanners and youtube is a good source of this.

So why do such good products slide down the hill? I mean NOD32 used to be good, I remember AVG was good as well. Such a waste if brand name. SAS is out if my system now.

Quality control and Pride I guess or selling out to another that dont care to better it but just to make a few dollars from it.A lot of quality stuff as gone south over the years. They say history repeats its self, well I am still waiting for the classic american cars to return with solid steal crome bumpers and three coats of lacquer paint and a trunk the size of pickup bed and a enough horsepower under the hood to pull away a cabin cruiser.

The real time protection of SAS did not go down hill. Instead it was revealed over time, throughout consistent test results as not being a viable component of the product. In other words, the real time protection did not go down hill, it never was any good to begin with.

On the other hand, the on demand scanning is normally rated pretty high among other similar anti-malware products. If you do a search of this site I think you will find a consistent theme from the SAS (former) developer when a post was made about SAS letting malware slip through its real time protection. That being 1. SAS is not designed to detect that specific malware; 2. Nothing can protect you 100%; and then finally 3. You are making a personal attack on me and my company's good name! This coming from the same person who sold lifetime licenses of the abandoned crapware superadblocker for years and promised future development of the product but never came through. It hasn't been developed in years though. His word is worthless. So the snake oil promises about the real time protection is no surprise.

I use it only to scan and get rid of the harmful / tracking cookies

But otherwise, it is a $h!te product that can't catch anything

What a waste I bought the pro version license which sits there not being used for ages

Well you gotta be mean to a product which is administered poorly and handled lazily resulting in no improvement for a long time. For Heaven's sake, SAS is falling behind by not a mile but a whole universe! :(
    Again,

I'll just let my Grandchildren play on line games for a while. If there's a trojan somewhere they'll find it. :D
