I just downloaded ID Blaster Plus and was wondering if I could add my IP address to my list? If so, will you please let me know what info I need to set it up?

If not, do you have any other suggestions on how I can keep that info private? (unless it's something I don't need to worry about)

    Thank you!!

I´m afraid you can not hide or change your ip. I got multiple ip´s by changing my computers image as net server. I can always use my ISP´s proxy too. If you use Internet Explorer It can be changed anytime at "internet properties" "connections"tab, "settings " (sorry if these don´t match, I have everything in finnish.) , you find it on control panel. Proxy use usually port 8080. You have to manually set your proxy up, for example: proxy.[yourISPname].[yourISPdomain net, com, org etc]
This will hide your primary ip # ( still many sites show them both ) Use a good firewall, it´ll be ok.

Ask more anytime, there are no silly questions.
    And welcome aboard !

    Hi Krusty,

Thank you so much for your help. I use Zone Alarm as my firewall (that's a good one, right? lol)

I'm pretty new to all of this and want to be as safe as possible.

    Greetings Sweetspud and Welcome !!

Protecting your IP address is very difficult because in order for your computer to communicate with whatever website you are viewing, or email server you are using, or chat program you are, well, chatting on, ;) ultimately, your IP address must be used. That's just how the Internet works. IP addresses are the "location" of each end of an Internet connection. Without giving out your IP address, you could never receive a reply message (i.e. a web page, mail message, line of chat, etc.)

As Krusty pointed out, you could use a proxy server... A simple explanation of a proxy server is... You talk to a special site, "a proxy server", it knows your IP address, (because it needs to in order to talk directly to you), you tell the proxy to go out and get a webpage for you. It hits the website you want, and gives that site "its IP address" not yours. When it gets the webpage back, it sends the page back to you, so you can see it.

The proxy server does and must know your address. But, the website you wanted to see, will see only the proxy server's address (at least, in an ideal world). Your IP address isn't given to that website.

But, there are limits and a whole lot of variables in all this. It's best to visit our Privacy forums and see what's written there for more on this.

The first thread I'd recommend is this one, titled: "proxy stuff again"...

    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=3582;start=0

This thread here should actually be moved to "Privacy General", however, I want to leave it here so Javacool can see it and discuss his thoughts regarding "ID Blaster Plus" and how it relates to IP addresses.

In the meantime, you can get more information over in Privacy and feel free to post over there with more questions and thoughts.

    Best Wishes,
    LowWaterMark

    Hey,
Zone Alarm is a great firewall. One of the best, if not the best. You are in good hands. Go with pro. though if you are really worried about serucity like I am.

Hi SweetSpud and welcome to the Forum.
If you are using Zone Alarm (Free ?), that's a good Firewall to start with.
And don't hesitate to ask any questions here at the Forum !! ;)

    Gents,

No offense, but could you discuss specific firewall related issues over on the Firewall Forum?

    Thanks in advance ;).

    regards.

You could try using a cloaking script to mask your IP, but setting up is not for the novice. ZAP 3.5.169 is a good firewall, but uses far too much system resources. You are better off using either Kerio 2.1.4 freeware or purchasing the vastly superior packet filtering firewall Visnetic 1.2 from Deefield.

If you really wanted to be invisible use Stealther tool which will encrypt your proxy or Sneakby 3.6 which is similar. Even the NSA will not be able to track you using these babies! These you will have to pay for and remember anonymous proxies can slow down your connection and be unreliable at times. ;)
