Free Cisco antivirus? Nice, I want to try it. :D

Edit: Cisco should add rootkit protection to the free version and replace False-Positive-ClamAV by Bitdefender. :)

Are there any detection tests with Immunet?

Immunet PLUS with the BitDefender engines is ok, it's the free ClamAV engine that's poor.
Fortunately it's disabled by default, so it's the cloud engine alone.

I remember when Immunet was first released. The whole community-powered idea was so promising. It's a pity they never were able to make it profitable.

I don't know. It always seemed like a bit of a gimmick to me. Almost all the AV programs have a cloud component now.

It WAS a gimmick. They wanted each individual to build his own community. It seemed to me like it was a way to get users to shill for them.

Whenever I installed immunet I always wonder what the hell is difference between the cloud and this "community". It was sheer hype.

Gimmick or hype or not, their documentation explained the concept rather well.

Maybe you should have done more than merely install it. Not that wondering isn't a wondrous thing...

I have been in contact with Joxx and every settings in admin panel have been checked. We are trying something out for now but my second guess is that it might be at his end (setup) where the fault can be found. (could easily be WOT) He is the only one who have ever experienced it so I am kind of curious about it too

So dont worry about it ;)

Actually the only explanation I could find of the "Community-Based" feature is here.

So if you have this alleged wondrous "their documentation explained the concept rather well" you can give the link.

FYI, I just posted this in their forums.

Immunet Users - Time to check for updates. I noticed ClamAV definitions did not seem to update in the free version since yesterday. Just got home, plugged my laptop in, clicked update and noticed version 3.1.12.9665 has been released. Here is what I have noticed.

    PROTECTION
    - Monitor Network Connections is a new option

    CLAM AV
    - No longer listed in options in this version!

    TETRA DETECTION ENGINE (Bitfefender)
Allow Definitions Updates -is now enabled in free
Enable TETRA Engine - this can now be selected in free, but the enabled setting does not "stick" for me if I click save / close and then reopen

    SCAN SETTINGS
Scan Email and Deep Scan from Plus version can now be selected in free, but again, the changes are not sticking for me if I save / close and reopen.

The upgrade to Immunet Plus sidebar / advertisement is still popping up in this version. After the upgrade install from 3.1.8 free and seeing this I did a complete uninstall, deleted all directories, rebooted and then re-installed. Upgrade advertisement still is popping up.

Memory use remains very low. I noticed the user count has tripled in recent weeks from the 3 million + users to now over 10 million. My guess is they have incorporated some of Immunet into newer Cisco / Sourcefire offerings and are now combining the user count(??).

** In further checking, anything I turn to on or off will not stick in the settings if I save / close and then reopen. Might just be my machine.

*** Also, while it did update definitions and there is a tetra folder with some Bitdefender files, Immunet 3.1.12.9665 free clearly did not pull down any BD updates. It did, however, apparently update ClamAV definitions.

I was trying this prior to todays update, and had noticed a new process I didnt see before. I believe it was called "Sourcefire" or something like that. It was using a lot of CPU, and I eventually ended up uninstalling. Has this improved in the new release?

I think the file you are referring to is sfc.exe, which is the main process that previously was named agent.exe. The file name changed when they did the major rewrite for version 3.1.8. Right now sfc.exe is using 10,884 KB of memory, so very light.

What I noticed with sfc.exe since 3.1.8 is that the process would scale dramatically, sometimes spiking during a reboot and it would then quickly settle down after all Windows background processes had loaded. I also noted that it never seemed to hang and always seemed to release whatever access memory / processor it was using rather quickly.

These are just my personal observations. Like most members, I'm continuously tweaking the six computers in our household, which involves switching back and forth between various security programs while trying new things. Lately I seem to always eventually move everything back to Immunet as I find little to complain about.

yes, I noticed the Tetra folder, with just a few files
and a ClamAV folder, even if the option in the UI disappeared

what a messy update, an yet so promising

I reinstalled to try the latest build. sfc.exe eats a ton of cpu. Didn't even bother checking ram. Uninstalled again for now.

Strange, I have version 3.1.13.9666 (New install as of today) and I have none of the extras you mentioned?
Even the fly out to buy the none existing product is still there?

Pedersen, do you have any new info regarding this confusion?

    /E

the 3.1.13 reverted the product to the old Immunet free
in sum it erased what was new with 3.1.12.9665
and left files and folders from that update behind in the process

    messy and disappointing
