Thunderbird 2.0.0.24 EAV 4.2.58.3 I use Thunderbird as an IMAP client. I don't see anything in EAV's Advanced Settings about IMAP. I do see stuff in there about POP3, which I don't use. Is EAV actually scanning all my IMAP folders? I notice that the Rescan Messages is always grayed out in Thunderbird.
Hello, Yes IMAP is covered as stated in the manual for EAV4, "Email protection provides control of email communication received through the POP3 protocol. Using the plug-in program for Microsoft Outlook, ESET NOD32 Antivirus provides control of all communications from the email client (POP3, MAPI, IMAP, HTTP). When examining incoming messages, the program uses all advanced scanning methods provided by the ThreatSense scanning engine. This means that detection of malicious programs takes place even before being matched against the virus signature database. Scanning of POP3 protocol communications is independent of the email client used." Regards, -Tom
I find this a little unclear. First, what's the "plug-in program for Outlook?" Is that something I have to install, or is it active when I check the EAV checkbox to have Outlook integration? Second, does that plug-in result in Thunderbird IMAP mail being scanned, not just Outlook IMAP mail? Again, I notice that the Rescan Messages option in Thunderbird is always grayed out, whereas it's always available in Outlook, which I rarely use, even though I have both Thunderbird and Outlook integration checked in EAV.
perhaps going though this thread might give you the inisight https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=275674
Thanks. Okay, I set EAV to append a scan message to *all* messages and tested. Yes, it scans any message in any folder, so I'm happy. Then I set it back to append only if infected. However, I still don't have an option to Rescan Messages within Thunderbird. That is always grayed out. No big deal.
The plug-in is what is enabled when you check the box for email client integration. The plug-in is responsible for enabling spam scanning / controls (ESS-only) and IMAP scanning support. As for the Rescan Messages option if you first highlight one or more messages and then click on the plug-in you will notice that it is no longer grayed out.
"Rescan Messages" is always grayed out in Thunderbird, even when I highlight a message. It works in Outlook, however. I have email integration checked for Thunderbird.
I see, my apologies. In my testing with version 3.05 of Mozilla Thunderbird and 4.2.58.3 of ESET NOD32, I found after selecting a message the option to rescan became available. To troubleshoot the issue further you can put in a case with ESET, if you like. Regards, -Tom
